Got reception?

I didn't know where to post this but here goes: A week or two ago, some drunken vandal roamed the parking lot where I work. At his discretion, he either knocked off side view mirrors or bent antennas. The cops said he is homeless with hepatitis and AIDS so we all avoided confrontation. Anyhow, he bent my radio antenna a complete 90 degrees facing outwards. I couldn't restraighten it by hand so I unscrewed it and lightly heated it with a torch and hammered it straight on an anvil. It's perfectly straight now but my reception sucks. There are different degrees of static, depending on the station signal. Did the heating and hammering of the stainless antenna affect reception or is it purely coincidental?

You can try a new mast. But I bet he broke the mounting base internally.



If you do buy a new mast. Remember the old one leaves very nice red mark across bare skin. :-laf :-laf



Just because he has given himself some nasty illness doesn't mean that he can get by with destroying other peoples property. The police most likely will not want to arrest him for the same reason.

That's what I was thinking about. If a different mast doesn't work, I would have to change the whole base and wire, which looks like a PITA to reroute under the dash and stuff. Thanks for your input... . I will keep the old mast.

Antenna base

On my 89, I got a new mast and base at Radio Shack and the reception actually improved over the factory setup. I have my old factory setup if ya want it.

Hey, I think my "new" truck still has an antenna!!! LOL, but I doubt it would be worth the shipping.

I installed a nice stereo in my boat this spring. I bought a small 12v powered antenna rather than put up a stick on the outside. The unit is velcroed up inside a cabinet. It works GREAT! $20 at Crutchfield. Check them out.

On your truck you could probably put it above the mirror or the visor.



Hope this gives you another option.

Thanks for the options. I think Radio Shack sounds like the way to go. I got a buddy that works there part time and I get his employee discount on stuff. In the meantime, I've been playing more CD's and not so much radio.
