Got Road Hazard? If Not then Get It!

I am running late for work, but jsut wanted to mention something that is sometimes forgotten or overlooked. I'm a firm believer in purchasing road hazard with new tires, and it payed off today after work. I got a brand new Bridgestone Dueler A/T (285/75/16 $155) after I hit something in the road and blew out my right front. I figured I would get prorated but he said with the tread left its a free replacement. I've had these tires since Feb 2001, and I am not easy on them on the rear!. Factor in the coast of road hazard and it was $16 for a brand new tire.



Since I got this one free, I'm getting it aligned tommorrow and buying a new tire to match with this one, and I'll take my good used one for a fullsize spare.



Oh and the stock jack will lift the truck up high enough for 285/75/16 ... not sure how much higher it would go tho.

I too had a recent event involving a flat. Wifes car got a screw though the sidewall so it wasn't repairable... . brand new tire thank you very much. Best 18 bucks I ever spent.

i usually get road hazard. haven't used it in years. the last place i bought 16's didn't offer it. 2 days later..... my first blow out!!! the tire was worthless. they offered me a cheaper price and a smile. but then again i am the person that always gets the extended warranty and am never dissapointed!!

Les Schwab replaced a tire for free on my Toyota when a nail went though the sidewall. What I found interesting was when a nail went though my sidewall in Mexico they had no problem repairing it, the repair lasted till the tire wore out. The Mexican tire guy said he never heard of sidewall punctures not being repairable.

Les Schwad's has replaced two (245/75R/16) when I had the side walls cut by rocks did n't cost me a dime!!!!!!!!

I plugged a big nasty hole in my snow plows [FJ40] rear tire sidewall "just to see" as they still had plenty of wear left... that was two years ago and chains are never off it [even leave them on if off season and just park it under a tree on the property] . . just bought new tires for it a month ago. . it is only used during snow season to plow with on a private road, so I wasn't worried about a blow out or hazzard ... go figure

Untill the last couple years since my elbows have worn out I always patched my own tires. They make a radial patch for sidewalls and it has an arrow on it to tell you which direction to face the bead.

I never buy the road hazard insurance. On my BFG's around here it's ~$20/tire. So all I have to do is go through 2 sets of tires to pay for a replacement. I've only had to have 1 tire replaced due to a road hazard in 6 sets of tires - so I've saved ~$300 by not buying the road hazard. JMHO

Who don't have Les Schwab in their areas. There is no tire business that's run like them that I've found. You can get things fixed 24 hours/day. They're come to you. It may cost something on Sunday at midnight - but if you have to get going - you can. And here in the North West - they are in a ton of small places-all with great service. They are a blue collar type of a place - and while you may pay a little more - try getting somebody else's tire fixed in Bo &^%$ Montana!

Les Schwab is great but you really have to keep your eyes on their work. Many of the tire monkeys are young, inexperienced, low paid and turnover is high. As an other tire shop manager told me, "Les trains all our workers", meaning as soon as they have some experience they move on to a higher paying shop. I found out the hard way to watch them after having the tires replaced on my 30' flatbed. They had removed the trailer from the truck without my knowledge and had "forgot" to connect the safety chain and pin. Trailer came off at 40 mph a half mile from their shop. It could have been real bad. They did pay for the damage and the employee was fired. I continue to use them but watch the entire time.

My personal experience at Les Schwab was not very good. In fact, I will never recommend them to anyone. They did a real job on my tires. Read and see it here about my schwab job.



If you're looking for coverage that will take you across the country, there is 3 choices; Sam's Club, Costco, or Sears Auto.

Sam's, & Costco include road hazard in the mounting package. Sears used to include it in the basic mounting package, but I'm not sure if that applies toay.



I agree with Kat's original comment on getting road hazard INSURANCE. I have yet to use it, but will still always get it.



I have life insurance and will never use it, but my family may.

No offense to anyone but if I can't afford to replace a tire out of my pocket I'm buying too expensive of tires. The money is probably better spent on the essentials - say food or mortgage.



I paid ~$125 each for the 315/75R16 America's Tire Pathfinder ATR's that I run on my truck. If I trash one I'll deal with it. If I was running $300 19. 5s I'd probably buy road hazard.

The money wasn't a problem..... thats why the next day I went and bought a new one to match up with it. 2 for 1 type of deal... ... sorry but I will not turn down a free tire for a mere $16. I mainly get it for flat repair, and lifetime rotate/balance. I've had 3 flats fixed and now 1 tire replaced.
