I have had a 93 ext cab D250 for about a year and a half, it has a few fence post indents on it but the paint looks great on the sides and hood and roof, just bought a 92 standard cab at a Southern company auction and it has the usual "peeling white paint from the primer", that I have seen on so many Chevy's, but the hood and roof look like someone scrubbed all the paint off with roll of barb wire, bought truck to work on farm and to pull trailers, so dont need no "good" paint job, but I need some ideas about what to do to the rustiest parts, thought I had heard of a paint or jell or something that would take minimal sanding to at least stop or slow down the rust,,,,,you know, like something magic advertised off the weather channel for somebody lazy like me. .

There are several "rust converters" on the market. They convert the active corrosion to a passive oxide coating that is almost black in appearance. I know you didn't want a good looking paint job but this will be pretty ugly! Any good industrial paint shop should be able to supply this for you. We use it all the time but I don't do the buying so I don't have a brand name for you.

there is one very good product that I use for rusty stuff. It's called 'hammerite'. now I have never thought of using it for auto painting but if your not picky???

It does come in a smooth finnish too.

POR-15 works great, alittle expensive but works incredible to convert rust, have used it on boat trailer axles(rest of trlr is galvanized) it works as advertised,

www.por-15.com

it's available at some local autoparts and marine supply stores, you could look around for it,or order direct, do a web search for por-15 and many vendors came up.

I have no relation to this company at all, it's just great to find aproduct that works as advertised.

Good Luck,

Caleb

I have painted the underside of the truck with this produce last year. I must have not prepped the surface correctly because it is flaking off in some places and I rust bubbles in others. I must need to add another coat. The stuff goes on thick and doesn't come off anthing very well. It is sort of like a bedliner coating.

That stuff is great, I used it on the frame of my 1963 ford 4X4, and it looks good and holds up. Oh yeah salt does not seem to phase it. :)
