Got safety recall done last week and now my stock voltage gauge no longer moves up and down when the grid heaters kick on and off. It use to drop to about 13 volts move to 14 plus back and fourth as the grids kicked in and out. Now since the recall it just shows low voltage 13-13. 5 until the grids stop working 3-5 minutes than it goes to about 14. 5 volts. I know the grids are working because I hooked my voltage meter to the battery terminals and my meter shows the voltage drops and increases when the grids are kicking in and out but the gauge on the dash doesn't. Has anyone else noticed this?

Dummy guages

Dodge has a habit of making guages not read, my 01 had an oil pressure guage that read 60 psi whether the engine was running or not... . Pretty sure that ain't right. Hopefully they didn't do it again.

This is the way mine has always functioned, and I believe is the "correct" functionality. You must have a VERY early-build 2003 to not have this programming from the factory.

As far as I know, the voltage gauge is not fake. It's accurate, except when the grid heaters are cycling. During grid heater use, the ECM supresses signals to the voltmeter and forces it to read roughly 13v rather than jump up and down with the action of the heaters.

This was done so that people don't keep bringing their trucks in for electrical problems when it's cold outside and the heaters are running. The "average" owner probably has no clue what's going on during the heat cycles, and so a moving gauge would likely upset them.

Yes I have a January 2003 built one of the first 48re with the HO. Like I said before the reflash you could see it.

Wow, that's good. I guess they changed the programming. I wonder if they'll see a rash of people running to the dealer to have the electrical system "repaired".

Mine has never "cycled" either. It simple sits around 13 volts until the cycle quits...
