Stop Thursday to get an oil change an tire rotation. Local dealer does both for $48, can't beat it with a stick.

This time it was a little more expensive. .

Traded in the 04 quad cab for an 06 Mega Cab 3500. . Mineral gray, SLT trim. Have to get used to the extra length, but man is it nice. .

Immediate needs are:

mud flaps

running boards, steps, tubes ???

spray in bed liner (brand? over the rails or not??)

Any recommendations would be appreciated

TIA,

Bryan

I added Alpine Stainless Steel Nerf Bars (tubes) and Duraflap mudflaps. I would go with an under rail spray bed liner and then get some rail protectors to put on the bed rails. See my rig gallery for views of the nerf bars and mudflaps.

Get the LUND Nerfs, Westin didn't last a year.

I have the RINO over the rail, takes a beating!

Flaps, I have the standard Dealership ones.

When my 05 is nearing the oil change interval, I get an email coupon from the dealer for the work for 54 bucks.

I had the Line X over the rail done shortly after I got the truck and am very happy with it.

So far as mud flaps, Iv got the molded ones from the dealer, I think they were 40 bucks a set.

The rears have the Dodge logo on them but the fronts dont for some reason.

I had the dealer install the 4" tube step in black when I got the truck.

Dont know if the numbers would be the same but the stock number for the front is 82207914 and the rear is 82207915.

I'm mechanically impaired but started doing my own oil changes after the dealer shuttle driver who also works in the oil change pit admitted to me that he doesn't always prime the oil filter on the ctd's. :{ To me that meant probably a minute of zero oil pressure. Hopefully your dealer pays somebody a decent wage to do this critical service properly.

More like 5-10 seconds at most. I've done mine serveral times w/o pre-filling the filter and had oil pressure almost as soon as it started.

Oil moves quickly at idle in these trucks. I always prefill my filters. But one time I forgot to check (who really does this?) for the old filter's seal left on the motor. So I had two seals. long story short this didn't "seal". not more then 30 seconds of idle to check for leaks I had 1 gallon of amsoil on the ground.

Immediate Needs

I have the Best Top Power Step. (http://www.bestop.com/index.php?s=35)

These work great and don't hang down at all when the doors are closed.

My dealer lined my bed over the rail with "Turbo Liner". Same formula as Rhino but is supposed to have a higher UV resistance. Still looks good after a year in the sun. I haul stuff in my bed so I wanted the protection on my rails.

I have the standard dealer mud flaps with a SS bottom edge and NO dealer or Dodge logos. They look good and have saved my paint already.

Another thing you might consider, especially if you tow, is an exhaust brake. I rarely use my brakes going down hill when towing my trailer through the mountains. I even use it for in town driving. Mine is made by PacBrake.

I 2nd the Line- X I've them doen to my last 2 trucks and will never buy a drop in liner ever again! I laugth when people tell me Line- X is too expensive and ask them to remove their liner and check the rust under the drop in liner.

I stand corrected. I still don't trust the dealer.

I put nasta nerf bars on and they worked great.

I also went with Line-X over the rails. I considered Rhino but like that Line-X (corporate) warranty seemed a little more like a warranty. The Rhino dealers are independents and while the warranty says lifetime it is up to independent dealers to honor it. I had a fried that had a tear in his Rhino and went through hell getting it repaired.

Thx, I do tow and had the dealer throw in the Mopar exhasut brake installed after he presented his final numbers. It is on order and just needs to be installed. .

Someone please tell me they have all the software worked out for the 06 with the 48e?

The Dealer and I suspect they are in good company didn't know much about it. .

Bryan

'06 Quad Cab SLT:

Dodge factory mud flaps (upgraded to stainless fasteners, in part).

Rhino Liner, over the rails (I like Line-X, too, but the Rhino Liner dealer near me is much better than the line-X dealer. )

Access Cover Laredo soft tonneau cover. (Love it. Rolls up. No snaps. This is my second one. shakes off Upstate NY winters like nothing!)

I am shopping for steps or running boards, and went so far as to order a set of Onki Nerf boards. They were almost $700. I returned them, because you have to drill the sh%$ out of the truck to get them installed. I have looked at the Luverne products and they are very nice, also expensive. Still shopping. Depending on your climate, it may be important for you, like me here in corrosive Upstate NY, to consider popping for a product that will have decent corrosion resistance. I know some guys that bought cheapy tube steps, and they were rusting and looking crappy after only one winter.

Good luck with that Big Dawg.

Buy some Stainless nerf bars from Alpine, Back Country or others. Mine were less than $400 and used the factory cab mounts holes. The ones I had on a 2002 Toyota Tundra looked brand new 4. 5 years later when I traded it in for the current 06' Ram.

never again for line-x

the comment about a warranty yeah right those guys (coroporate too) left me out ot dry with my 01 that started peeling all over the place because they had not sanded the bed properly. Long story short they "fixed it by respraying over the old liner which anyone knows what happened after that... At the end I was told tough luck so sorry this after driving form northern CA to the headlquarters where I was promsed it would be resolved so I have made it a point to let anyone and everyone know my experience with Line-X as I hope nobody else gets it the way I did. Also I have Spray-On now same material MCUH better company to deal with.

Has anyone gone with some wheel to wheel bars on a Mega Cab. I have been looking but do not find much. Some "Putco's" for $1200 :( . Does anyone have experience with "Go Rhino"?

Thanks, Bear

Has anyone tried "Go Rhino" brand ?? They are one of the only ones to list a wheel to wheel bars for the Mega Cab. Found some "Putco's" for $1200 :(
