Since I'm about to go on vacation, I've been getting the PW in shape for thousand miles of towing, and that included doing some re-jetting on the carb. Well, I did some adjusting, including changing jets, and then took the truck up OR 204, which is about a 7 percent grade for 4 or 5 miles. It would let me load the engine under various circumstances to see if it had any 'flat spots". Well, it doesn't. But, on the way up, I was just a little over half way when I came around a corner to see a truck - a service truck sitting on what little shoulder there is, sticking out into the lane a ways.
Normally, I'd probably not stop, but guy standing out in front of it looking a bit distressed, and then I recognized him... Used to be my neighbor about 4 years ago. So, I stopped and backed up. Well, his superduty had apparently lost a soft plug, and the antifreeze was all over the back of the truck, on the ground, and dripping under it. He's the manager of the FerrelGas store (propane distributor), and he's delivering a 16 foot long propane tank up on the mountain. Well, he WAS.
The customer is having a propane heater or furnace installed, the stove guy is up there putting in the chimney, with his helper. If that tank doesn't get up there, the stove guy has to waste at least a couple hours of his time and his and his employee's time juust making the trip back up there, not to mention getting restarted and the propane guy's gotta spend another 2 or 3 hours as well going back...
So, I towed his truck to the nearest level ground (a couple miles up that 7% grade... and about halfway there, we meet the stove guy in his bright red CTD!!!! He whips around and follows us the rest of the way up to the top (where the flat ground is). When we stop, he jumps out of his Dodge... and runs over to Mike (the FerrellGas guy) and says "Man, seeing that Ford towed by the Dodge just brought tears of joy to my eyes!!!".
To make a much longer story short, I took Mike back to town, got his tank mover (a 2 wheel trailer), and hauled the tank on up on the mountain and got it unloaded in place AND in time not to waste Ted's day...
I'd never met him (the stove guy) before, but he's officially been invited to be a part of TDR !
Ted, if you see this... Come join the fun!
Man, I wish I had pictures
