is this right? in my manual, i can't find the trans temp sensor. it's not in the line. it's inside the pan. i do find something called the "governor pressure sensor/transmission fluid temperature thermistor".

is this the trans temp sensor? could this be causing my transmission to go in and out of lockup? i was told that replacing this is a bear. the park rod plays a part. i'm not sure how. i have an appointment to have this replaced tomorrow at the stealer. if it is as easy as plugging it in, then i will change it.

thanks for the help. scott.

Scott,

I replaced my gov pressure sensor and solenoid before finding out the PCM gov pressure solenoid driver was bad.

Replacing the pressure sensor/ thermistor is cake once you drop the pan. Takes all of 10 minutes.

I'd suggest you simply disconnect the connector at the PCM at the measure the resistance with an ohm meter. Thermistors are very reliable devices, if there's a problem odds are its the wiring to the thermistor not the thermistor.

Also hooking up a OBDII scan tool to get the codes would be a wise idea (been there, see replaced parts above). The PCM should be able to diagnose an intermitant thermistor because they are only supposed to change slowly with temperature. A big dropout would be easy for the PCM s/w to detect.

I think most intermitant lockup problems are caused by the Throttle Position Sensor (TPS). Search for threads on TPS.

Scott,

I have a 99 w/ AT. If you think it is the governor pressure solenoid, I have some test gauges w/ long hoses to check your pressures. I don't know what differences there might be in the different transmissions. If you have test ports, I have gauges.

Worst part of it all is that I must go out of town and will not be back until late Saturday night. Call me if you want to borrow them. I'll send a PM.

thanks guys. i have replaced the tps. smooth voltages on the old one and new one. i haven't a clue as to what the problem might be. i will be installing a . 68/50v/non-electolytic capacitor in my tps signal line tomorrow. noise from somewhere? the dealer doesn't have a clue. those guys know less than i.

Scott,

What speed was your trans acting up.

Once again reading post on symptoms of trans you stated something to the effect that it felt like it was trying to shift into overdrive.

Question was it shifting into overdrive and back into third or not shifting into overdrive?

If no up shift into overdrive there are a few more area's(fuses, wires, sensors and solenoids) you can check out.

Yes the pressure and trans temp sensor are in one package.

capacitor in the signal line didn't work.....

like i asked before... is the "governor pressure sensor/transmission fluid temperature thermistor" the same as the transmission temp sensor???

thanks. scott.

From 96 Manual

"The thermistor (transmission fluid tempature sensor) is part of the pressure sensor and is immersed in transmission fluid at all times. "

By the way did you state in one of your post that you checked fluid level?
