Installed the BD gov. spring kit last night.
straight forward job but a word of warning.
MAKE SURE YOUR MAGNET IS STRONG ENOUGH!!!!
Mine wasn't and I dropped one of the small spring down into the gov. housing. Took me over a half hour of cussing, pleading to the diesel gods and other ranting to finely retrive said spring. WEW!!!

Now to my question. Has anybody else installed a spring kit and had boost and EGT drop?? My Boost went down from 31psi to 26psi. My EGT went from 1250/1300 down to
1100/1150. Just curious.
Power through the rpm range is now smoother but the change in boost/egt has me worried.

I'm going to the drag strip tomorrow so I'll
find out if I've lost any power.

You are getting less power because the rocker position is now different at a given rpm. Ask JRE for a torque plate designed for your application.

The most common reason for your loss of fuel after installing a gov. kit is, A the cam plate or AFC housing were'nt put back in the same place or B you did not put the correct tension on the springs. Double check your cam plate and AFC housing locations, if both were correct check the height of the retaining nut verse the stud, should be about . 060" You can change your top end rpm & torque back up [fuel level] up or down by going tighter or looser on the spring tension. Keep the height of the retaining nuts the same, if you put too much preload on the springs you will start to lose idle quality & won't be able to set the correct idle speed, if you don't have enough you will lose fuel. Ask Joe, when I mentioned to him that he could increase his stock setting a bit by adding one or two extra clicks to the springs, he thought if two is good six must be better... . it was, except his engine would'nt idle below 1400 #ad

Well, I have to admit to having been there and done that. When Piers originally explained the installation instructions over the phone, he said 2 clicks of the retainer nut, but I registered 2 complete rotations of the retainer nut. I've learned to write down instructions when speaking over the phone than trying to rely on memory. However, things are now set-up properly with Pier's new spring kit and the truck runs great . #ad

bigkavr, mine did the same thing i lost 5# of boost. Did you find out what the problem was, please let me know if you find the problem you can e-mail me thanks.

Ted, Piers and everyone else who helped.
Thanks for all the help. Ted tracked down Piers and found out why I was under fueling.
Hard to believe . 010 tighter on the gov springs could make that much difference.
(I havn't tried it yet, have to wait till tuesday night. . ) Again, THANKS GUYS!!!!!!!

bigkavr, Don't hesitate to play around with the spring settings. I have done so a few times as I didn't get it right the first time around either. I can honestly assure you that with a click here and a click there (go slow) on the spring tension, you'll have that Cummins purring in no time. Then you'll want the biggest plate JRE has to offer plus bigger injectors and bigger turbo!!! This stuff gets addicting #ad
