I have just purchased the 190 injectors from PDR, I have 16cm housing, 3. 5" exhaust and K&N filter, Auto trans with DTT convertor and shift kit. My question is I want to change the govenor setting as when I accelerate hard the govenor cuts back before the truck shift especially from 3-4, I have replaced and adjusted TPS. Do I just adjust govenor set screw or install 3000 rpm spring? which is better? Thanks

The spring would be the "better" choice just more involved. By backing off the high idle screw you can probably get it to rev to around 3000 before the fly weights start shutting it down. With the spring it will quit reving when it runs out of fuel or it blows up. All backing off the high idle screw does is allow more spring pressure to be applied to governor and overide its defueling point. Results will vary depending on vehicle, pump condition, etc so you may be fine without the spring. When you back off the high idle you also increase throttle travel so the TPS once again comes into play. They are kinda picky about the range they want but there are ways to fool it. If you have your trans throttle pressure cable set pretty tight it will want to defuel before WOT shifts also. If you have a good valve body and line pressure you back that down to tune shift points also. Good luck.

Do the spring and save yourself a few headaches. It's not that hard to install and the driveability improvements will have you grinning for a month.

Call Piers back and I'm sure he can have you a spring in a few days.

You'll love it.

hdm48, I actually ordered a spring when I ordered the 190 injectors, it seems quite involved to change the spring, after reading the post that explains how to change, I was just looking for an easy way around it if there was. When you say save headaches by changing the spring over adjusting the throttle setting what do you mean by that. thanks for info

Well, by just turning up the high idle screw, you are putting a higher preload on the gov spring when the throttle shaft rotates further than stock. Ok, now you will need to grind a relief in the bellcrank support so the throttle can move far enough to use the extra throttle lever travel. Now you get to deal with KD adjustments. Remember, there is only so much travel in the KD cable, so, you may have to deal with improper KD adjustment. What I mean is, in order to get full travel at wide open, you may not be able to get the proper closed throttle adjustment. And with a Torqueflite trans, you will kill the trans in very short order if you run it with the KD cable out of adjustment.

If you run the 3200 gov spring, you won't have to deal with any of this.

I just installed a spring in my sons truck and it took 40 minutes. It's not that big of a deal. And you can remove the top without removing the throttle shaft. Just use a 5mm ball end allen wrench. And back the power screw ALL the way out. Look at it and you will see how it is done. And you can always go to a pump shop and look at a pump.

Hey Dave, you do know that you're gonna have to describe the bell crank ... right... :D

MPN, if you want a " try it out" choice, you can back out the high idle (goveror) screw. If you like the result, you can then install the new gov. spring afterward.

I'm pretty sure you'll like the results of both options...

pastor bob... .

But Bob, turning out the high idle screw won't give one the throttle responce the spring does.

And your right, I guess I do take things for granted sometimes. OK, the "bellcrank" thingy is right next to the framus thingamabob that holds the KD cable whatzit. Of course you need to be able to not get the cruise cable gunkalator armiture adjustment confused with the gizmo I am talking about. (that's "aboot" in Canadian speek)

Got it?

OK.

All these linkages to adjust make me glad I dont have an auto.

OK, I dont have a tach (at least hooked up, anyway; it's sitting in a box in my bedroom waiting for the sensor and wires), but I can pull HARD (as in 38psi boost) up to 62mph in 4th gear with 4. 10s. I can go 68-ish if I'm patient enough to let it finish pulling. You're saying that with the spring, I'll pull hard up to 68mph? That would be cool.
