Well, one more "Atta Boy!" for Piers and BD. I've finally gotten around to installing Piers' governor kit on my '97 and have only good things to report. I know that this has been covered quite well on the forum in the past and what I have to report is by no means new nor or are the results, however, I felt it was my obligation to share my experience as I have with other products.
The install is slightly more complicated (actually just more time consuming) than changing a fuel-plate. The most difficult part of the install was modifying a cheap, slotted screwdriver to remove the governor spring retainer nut. Other than that it was a snap... had to clean the potato chip crumbs from the springs though, apparently Piers had them rolling around in his desk drawer with his lunch. With all the modifications and products I have purchased from several vendors over the past 3 1/2 years (which are many more than I would like to admit), this one ranks at the very top. I have set the spring tension to govern at 3500 rpm and have noticed a crisper response in the low end in comparison to stock. I now can pull to slightly above 3200 with no defueling which is what I have always wanted. I have no concerns over who rolls up next to me at the stop light--I'm ready to lock and load. With all of the other BD (Piers inspired) products I now feel and know that I'm a major contender. The next item on my list of products is to replace my Centerforce clutch for a better one. Piers, I'm waiting! Once I resolve the clutch issue and purchase a 4" BD exhaust brake, I'll have no reason to de-tune my truck as I did for my last vacation. I can't imagine Piers has anything else up his sleeve, but with two sets of injectors, two turbo housings, a stock turbo, stock clutch, three fuel plates, BD exhaust brake, and a few other items laying on my shelves in the shop, it shows that I have been wrong before. In closing, all I can say is "Two thumbs up!"
If anyone would like any further information, please feel free to e-mail. I will be more than happy to respond.
