How do I remove the adjusting nut on top of the spring packs? A screwdriver in one side of the slotted adjusting nut?

And to avoid an off idle, touchy throttle problem, I should put the adjusting nut back to the same height as I measured before disassembly from the governor stud?

Anyone ever drop a spring into the pump?

I used my largest screwdriver on one side of the slotted nut. Originally I was going to notch a screwdriver to fit over the stud, but I never got around to it.

I didn't have any touchy throttle problems until after I installed my injectors. Then I lightened up the springs one click like Joe D. said and that cured it.

DBR ground on the screwdriver. He cut in a 1/4" wide by 1/4" deep slot & said it worked fine.

Hemi,
I tightened mine up one click past where they were because they seemed too loose. I had the too sensitive throttle problem. When I backed them off to the stock position it was fine. I did drop a shim during the process. It was stuck to one of the springs. I lucked out however because my electronics magnet that I was using is one of the smaller types that could reach down to the bottom of the pump to fish the washer out. My regular mechanics magnet was too large.

After fumbling around with one and then 2 small screwdrivers to turn the spring retainer nut, I made a tool by using a piece of 3/8" copper tubing I had laying around. Smashed one end shut in my vice and filed a notch in it to straddle the stud. I found it was a little easier to get the nut started when using a non-magnetic screwdriver/tool. The magnet only sticks to the nut making it less dificult to get things lined up. Just could'nt see ruining my favorite large screwdriver by grinding a slot in it #ad
