"More Volts than you ever want to weld with" ELECTRIC DRAG RACER Nukes Viper

OK. . I'm getting an inexpensive GPS solution for my birthday ( Deluo GPS Receiver ). It comes with Rand McNally Street Finder for Windows 98SE thru XP.

I have an older laptop that has a smaller screen, that will be perfect for mounting on a bracket above the radio (second gen truck), but the laptop is a Pentium 166 with 32 mb RAM, and not well suited for Windows 98. I'm considering installing FreeBSD on the laptop and using GPSDrive. Is anyone running Linux and GPSDrive? Do you like GPSDrive? Got any recommendations?

Other suggestions are welcome too.

Thanks

Newer versions of Linux (Mandrake 9. x in my example) actually run slower than Windows NT/2000.

Can you upgrade the memory in the laptop? That would probably be the easiest approach. If you could increase it to 64mb that would certainly help, 128mb would be even better.

I dug up another 16mb today. That gives me 48mb. I'm going to put a stripped down Windows 98 on it and see how it works out. The GPS mouse should be here in a couple of days. I'll let you know how it does.
