Get yourself a Garmin! The portable GPS has several advantages:

It can be moved from car to car

It comes pre-programmed with the continental US & Canada - no CD's to fool with

It can be hooked up to your PC for software or data upgrades - try that with your built in unit.

It can be hooked up to your PC for downloading, backing up, and copying your way-points to another unit if necessary - that with your built in unit.

It is half the price or less of a built in unit

You can upgrade your GPS without having to replace your car

You don't have to take the car or truck to a dealer to get the GPS serviced or updated

The major disadvantage I see is that the screen is smaller but the GPS takes care of that by automatically changing map resolution as you get closer to turns, etc.

One thing I can promise - once you start using one of these things, you will wonder how you got along as well as you did for as long as you did without it.

I'm with Jere and Ramtough the Garmin is hard to beat. My pal Casey has the Mopar unit and a Street piolt, and prefers the Street Pilot.

A couple of other advantages are the ability to program the Garmin while driving, touch screen (on 2600 and 2700 models), and a remote unit that allows the co-pilot to program the unit so you can watch the road.

Edge A2

I put ina Edge A2 that has the Tom Tom in it. I am amazed at the help it has provided. Clean install and multi task.

I have a 4. 5 and I bought a RB-1 ( the chrysler issued head unit) on e-bay and installed it myself. I have used it many times without a problem. The unit has sirius radio and a interactive moving map display with voice not like the RB-4 unit which does'nt give you a interactive moving map. :D

Some friends from Alaska we travel with in AZ have that capability with Verizon. I think you have to make a 1 or 2 year commitment for this. In my case of being down here part of the winter and Alaska the rest I use a phone line here and Cable when home. The slick thing when we are traveling together I can hook into her computer with my wireless on the Averatec. Last year I had to cable up to her laptop with my old Dell. The Garmin portables are excellent units. I went to "Refurb.com" and bought the Averatec 3200 series,12" screen, 80 gig hard drive, 1. 6 gig running speed with a double DVD burner for about $700 and including a 3 year warranty and shipping it was $806 to my door. The GPS 18 USB unit was $150. I got a big bang for my buck and have a sweet laptop every day and GPS on the road. I almost bought a garmin 2610 when I found this. There are alot of good units out there but this met my needs and tickled my fancy. We have traveled a lot and my wife is no help in navigating but it took a while to convince her I needed this setup. I did not work in sales for a lot of years for nothing.

Check this out. (http://www.garmin.com/products/sp7200/ )I think it will have everything you could want, includung a large screen. You can even attach a backup camera to it. I have had several Garmin units, and for the mony you can not beat them.

Also check out this site. (http://gpsinformation.net/ ) It has reviews links etc. Also check the venders on this site. You can get the unit for about $1100. I am sure that the built in is Ok, but for the money you can add several features to the Garmin. Anyway check out the sites and you will see that it is capable of doing much more. I have never found a built in with the features and portability as the Garmin.
