Grasshopper bait

Anybody got any home formula for getting rid of grasshoppers? There bad down my way again and they done been in the garden. Fellow at work told me about something this ole fellow told him to mix up and he tryed it and it worked on his garden but he forgot what all you mix in it. He said you mix hrydrogen peroxide, dishwashing soap and there were some other things you mixed in there but he did not remember what it was. He used it on his garden before and said it works. He said he was going to talk to this fellow and get the formula.

Doubt this will help, but I've been told stories about the old days of wyoming and how they used turkeys to control the grasshoppers. I guess they went as far as using bells (sort of like a mini-cow bell) to keep track of them. I understand they did a great job in keeping the 'hoppers down.

just go fishing alot. that should keep the grasshoppers under controll(if you use them for bait. )

I ain't got enough fish left in my tank now. Water is low(no rain) and it turned over the other day and saw about 6 floating. :{

We used to use Sevin dust. Unfortunately, I don't think you can buy it any more.

You can get some kind of biological control for hoppers, I think it is a fungus that spreads from one to others. Check some of the all natural pesticide sites.

Turkeys will work. Guineas do as well. Really noisy though. 'Bout the size of a chicken.

Moth balls... I hear it is good at keeping allot of vermin away. Just don't get it too close to the AC unit, that smell will linger inside the house for a long time. I didn't try this myself, but a friend told me about it when he was trying to keep cats away, and other vermin, including hoppers.

Guineas and or chickens are the best thing you will find. The chickens tend to be more destructive with their digging but will also eliminate a lot of other insects and arachnids.

the other good things about guineas are that they are super watch dogs, make a heck of a racket when something strange is on the place, they are great for eating ticks and since we have had guineas no more snakes! Down side is that they have no fear of autos or trucks. We loose way more to road kill than anything else. Also don't park your truck under the tree that they roost in!

Grass hopper zapper

I was just watching a agricultural channel, and they were talking about how in the prairie part of Canada they are experiencing a huge increase in Hoppers. It is so bad that a fellow Ram driver has invented This . Sure it is $25,000 in Canadian, but that is like what $1 American... :-laf . However I have yet to find any link to where you could order one, or see one in action like I just did on TV.

One other thing about guineas. They are about the stupidest creatures on earth.



I was building the chicken coup. Guineas walk around the perimeter of the shop making noise most of the day. I have a board on the end of a roll of wire and rolling the last little bit out. Wire pokes my finger and I let go. Wire rolls back up and right over guinea who just stood there and watched it coming.
