OK how many grease fittings are on my truck? and where the hell are they? Every place where I thought there would be one; there isn't one. Drove me nuts!! I only found 3 today but didn't look very long b/c was gonna be late for a dinner.

I think you got 'em all. That's all mine has too. I'm not quite sold on the lube for life tie rod ends and ball joints, but maybe they're O. K.

Sounds like a righteous Cruiser you've got. Have you been to Paragon yet? I don't know how close that is to you, but I may try to get a trip there with my J**p this year.

Yes, I go to Paragon every year. It's a great place and it's less than an hour away from me. Love wheelin' the cruiser. Bead locks are going on this spring then who knows what else. :D

You can add zirks to some of the joints. I'm at 13 and counting! Most have been through replacement but I have added a few to the "lubed for life" parts.

I added them to the ball joints. The lowers arent a problem to get to. I cant get the grease gun on the uppers.

I've tried rotating the wheels so that the U joint on the front tire is in a different area, but still no go.

Any ideas? Is there a special grease gun end to fit these? I got the 90 degree end, but it's still way too tight.

Eric

PS I've tried to install a 90 deg fitting, but there isnt enough room for that either.

You've got to remember them Dodge Boys Engineers always have a better idea!They will probably cut back on the three grease zerks we have and save a lot of money not to mention the big award one of them boys will get. We just don't see the whole picture. :-{}

Eric,

There is a neat great gun fitting that I use for driveshaft U-joints. It has a zerk with a collar around it on one end that fits on the end of the grease gun hose and a 1/4" diameter tube that has a tip shaped to fit the tip of a grease zerk on the other end. Overall length is about 4-5". It doesn't snap onto the zerk, rather it is just shaped to allow it to fit the zerk. Is that clear enough? (You're gonna make me get the technology to post a picture aren't you?) I got mine at a small town auto parts store.

There are a couple of U-joint options (at least there is for Jeeps). One has a removeable zerk to fit in the end of one of the caps, and one has a threaded hole in the center of the cross, in-line with the axle shaft. I put a 90 degree zerk fitting there on my Jeep and it works great. Hopefully all this is clear.

I went to NAPA today to get one of these special grease gun ends. I went to a different store, old one near me went out of business (wonder why?):-laf

The part number is 700-2020, price is $10. 69 + tax.

Parts guy said it was for getting to the fittings on the old K cars.

Extreme1,

When you add zirks to existing parts, do you clean out the filings after drilling and tapping? Or does it matter. I have thought of doing that but was concerned about the filings staying in the grease.

Yep, that was going to be my response. Obviously easy to drill and tap but what to watch out for?

Please tell all! Enquiring minds want to know!:D :D

When I added zerks to my balljoints, I just drilled and tapped the holes.

Figued it couldnt be no worse than running them dry, and if there was any chips, eventually they'd get squirted out.
