In the past, if I puckered my mouth right(as my Daddy used to say), I could get grease through the zerk into the joint but the last couple times I greased my 4x4 I couldn't. I am using a handgun and tried a needle nose but still could not get a straight enough purchase I guess. Wondered if any of you grease your truck with a handgun and get it done completely. Thanks for the help. Dale

I use a handgun to grease my truck and have no problem. There may be a problem with the zerk.

Holding your mouth right

May not be the problem. If the 4x4 is like the 2x4, the joints didn't come with fittings and when the new joint was installed, it may have been installed backwards. Examine the way the joint is installed and if it would give a better approach by flipping the joint, then do that. That of course requires taking the joint apart.

I have the same problem with mine. The tips on my grease guns were too thick to get into the gap and seat properly on the zerk. I just bought a new pistol-grip gun that has a smaller tip and was able to get grease into the zerk. I still have to disconnect the front joint to grease it since on mine, there is no way to get to the front u-joint zerk when it's connected to the front yoke, but that used to be what I had to do to get grease in the rear joints. Dropping the drive shaft down opened the gap up so the grease tip fit better. That might help your problem if you want to give it a try.

I find with mine that if I turn the shaft so that the fitting is down, I can get a better fit and grease goes in. Yes it's a tight fit. I used to try with the fitting at the top/side where it has more room, but the grease just would not go in. This just works for me. FWIW.
