So I believe the last time I had my front axle wheel bearings all greased up was about 50K ago and was wondering if there is a guideline on how often to pull the axle apart and grease the wheel bearings? Not that I believe I need to get them greased soon, but about what is the length of time before one needs to grease them up??

TIA, Joe

The hubs are a sealed unit. If you have a way to grease them I'd sure like to know. Dyna-Trac now makes a set of servicable hubs but the delivery date is suspect.

I pulled mine off at 99k to replace the ball-joints, I figure that with condition of current OEM units, I have 50k or so left on them. Mike

Dyna-trac is making servicable hubs for the 2nd gens? Really? I am so glad someone finally got around to this. Hope they come through with it.

I know the hubs are sealed, I was just looking for the service interval. The bearings still need to be re-packed with fresh grease every now and then, I just want to know how long one can go before pulling the hubs apart for service??

Joe

There is no re packing, it's a sealed unit. Which means, when it goes bad you buy a new one $$$ cha-ching.

Oh boy..... cha-ching! Wasn't what I was looking for but I guess that is the design that Chrystler came up with.

Joe

It is not a Chrysler design, Ford and Chevy have same design and also many front wheel drive cars anymore.

Are you saying there are aftermarket bearings for 2nd gen ? Where ?

I need some BAD... ... . but don't want to spend $ 700 for them.

Joe, There was a group buy on the locking hubs that ended last month. I needed to do the work on my FE before their "aproximate" delivery date or I would have them on mine. These replacement hubs would be fully servicable/rebuildible.

Valv, I know of no aftermarket bearing supply. I guess you could disassemble a stock unit and take the bearing/race assembly to a shop that specializes in bearings for a look-see. Might be a way around the DC option. Mike

Nope, "sealed" means just THAT, Sealed, PERIOD!;)

No fittings, no means of dissassembly, when they (bearings) dry out or wear out, you get a new replacement - no options as far as the stock units are concerned...

When taking apart my dad's 99 for the first time, we 'accidentily' seperated the hub from the bearing center. Just wiped down the grease, packed full of the good blue stuff. Lightly pressed them back together, and double checked preload on the axle nut, no more problems for the next 100k.

So, if you want to attempt to press them apart, you probably have a good chance of re-assembling them without a prob... I`d get a spare set before tryin that tho heh. .

good luck

HMMmmmm - at what point, year-wise, did DC go to the sealed wheel bearings?
