OK, I just heard back from my service writer regarding the coolant loss from the top of the overflow reservoir. Aparently there is a NEW TSB ( He read it to me directly from STAR) saying that some coolant loss out the top of the reservoir is NORMAL and due to vaporization of coolant returning to the reservoir.



A second TSB was released saying that some coolant loss out of the Water pump weep hole was normal and a nautral process within the cooling system/expansion etc.



I asked him for the EXACT TSB #'s for my records. SO when I pick it up tomorrow I will post them here.



THey are replacing the water pump based on my pictures of coolant drip which is nice, as well as thermostat and coolant reservoir bottle. The bottle being on my dime... . Hope this helps anyone experiencing these symptoms!

I remember seeing where a vehicle was running "warm" and the person had a kink in the line from the coolant bottle. I think it was caused from improper routing from the line. I don't remember. Sorry I'm not much help.

Coolant leaking from a water pump is not acceptable... . There is not an engine builder that will accept this as a norm..... the life of your engine is at stake if the dumb guy that owns it forgets to check and add water..... no way.....

I'm betting the TSB says nothing about water pump leak...

Jelag, MY service writer AGREES with you on the water pump issue. He said there is a weep hole for a REASON. To indicate that a pump or seal is near failure. Thats why he is replacing the water pump AND SEAL under warranty. He could have just stated the TSB and been done with it, but he says that is obserd. So he is replacing it for me like it should be!! Thanks!!

Sounds like you have a decent service writer supporting you. I dread taking mine in.

There is not a TSB for the water pump. It is a parts tech tip that says if it is weeping (residue) it is not bad and does not need to be replaced. If it is leaking (dripping) it needs to be replaced. Sounds like common sense to me.



Just came to mind, on several of the gas engines there is a weep hole reservoir that the coolant drops in to evaporate. If there is liquid running out of it, the pump is bad, if not it evaporates and you never see an external leak.

Thats good info to know Sag 2. When dealer was speaking to me on the phone se just said " TSB I am looking at it right here now"... but your right, I didn't even know there was a tech tip line! LOLOL Cool. Good news is, they are replacing the water pump...

I agree with this. In my opinion, every non-static seal must leak a little bit. In fact, usually the more a seal leaks, the longer its expected life. A perfect seal on a dynamic component (be it linear or rotary) would have extremely short life, since nothing is lubricating it.
