The truck from that movie is running around these parts. A guy in burbank bought it off a friend in action. It is a pretty unique toy.

That truck is so cool. What engine is in that thing, a 220 Cummins?? Whatever it is it sure BARFS some smoke!!!!!!!!!!!! I own that movie on VHS.

ooooo Oo. Oo.

... ... . tell me more about this 351... ... turbo'd, HP rating guess... could it really go 70 mph?

sorry for the goofy questions, but that truck is cool as hell. :-laf

I bet they put a 'button' in the pump just for the movie.

You gotta love how folks used to turn up diesels. Makes you wonder where we'd be today if nobody had dared to do it back then...

What exactly is a button? I was talkin to some guy the other day at a truckstop that had a cummins (12V~97), and he also drove trucks for a livin. He wanted to know why I put a fuel plate in mine, all he ever does to diesels is put in a "button" and he said you can have all the power you want. I just figured he meant deliverey valves or something on his 12V, or he really didnt know what he was talking about and wanted to impress me with wisdom and knowledge of cummins (he said he has "more power than you can shake a stick at" in his cummins, with only a "button") .

Thats an old movie & has been shown several times on cable tv. Let's see I started driving truck in 1975 the year I got married, maybe thats why I ended up being a psychotic tanker driver. :-laf :-laf

Tired of the old? or allready seen that? Try a new movie, it comes out in a few weeks and is call "Dust to Glory". Directed by Dana Brown, it's a movie about the SCORE Baja 1000. Iv'e seen some movie trailers and it looks good, I love anything to do with trucks and jumping.

Yeah, what did he say in that movie, something like... "Must be some kinda souped up diesel in that thing... " or something to that effect. It is a classic. Kinda reminds me of "The Car".

I'm no fuel system expert... but a "button" in the old injection pumps is analagous to a "camplate" in the P-7100. They control fueling in either case... they just go about it in different ways. It amazes me how much fuel some fuel folks run... often without knowing how hot things are running.

Stuff gets hot real quick when you gross 80,000+ pounds.

He is right.

The pumps on the 5. 9L Cummins don't have the buttons. They are in the PT and PT-G pumps on the 855cid, small and big cam, engines. Maybe some others. The "p" and the "t" stand for pressure/time. The "g" stands for governor. Between the button in the pump and the replaceable orfices on the unit injectors, it increases the fuel delivery. It is a lower pressure pump (under 100 psi (IIRC, been a while), unless BOMBed) with mechanically actuated (rocker arm) injectors.

Mitch,

Here's a shot that I took with my son next to the Pete at the Historical Truck Society Show this year!

Hey Grey Wolf

Where was that tuck show. Is it the one held at the truck musem north of Salem Oregon? We went there a couple of years ago to see a couple of tankers that were drivin by some fellow tanker drivers I run with.
