I just got back from a 3000+ mile Smokey Mountains and beyond vacation, so now my 03 H. O. six speed w/ 373 rear gear has about 4k miles on it. Before I left I had installed one of Dave Meheen's TAG units on the turbo charger inlet and an Areoturbine exhaust extracter along with a Afe drop in air filter. I drilled 4, 1" holes in the front of the air box for the cold ram air effect but other than these my truck is stock. I pulled a 12k lb 5 er all the way and was amased at how strong this truck is and the fact that there is very little "as in hardly any" soot on my bumper or the trailer. My 01 used to leave a big cloud of black smoke after each take off and I was constantly having to scrub the bumper and everything behind me all of the time but this 03 truck is totally different. There ain't no smoke comming out of this thing and the power was just great, especially in the Smokey Mountains, Hey! I didn't add any smoke to em Ha Ha! Is any body else noticing that there is no smoke comming out of these trucks? I always thought that smoke meant power but I got moocho power without hardly any smoke. Whats the deal her?:--) What do ya'll think is this normal? Billy & Jackie Adams

So do you think the TAG, AFE, and Aeroturbine made a diffrence in power? How about EGT's? Can you hear a diffrence in the sound from in the cab with the windows up while cruising? I intend to get an Aeroturbine next month but I don't want to make my truck obnoxious from in the cab... Just out of the cab!:D

What smoke?

Yeah ain't it great! Seriously I am interested in the answers to Scott's questions, and one other. Was the Aeroturbine very loud on the highway with that load? I have gotten used to mine, but occasionally it roars. I haven't towed yet since I installed it, but will soon enough. Mostly I'm interested in any new info on the TAG.

Thanks,

I got a little bit of oily soot on my rear fender and bumper for the first few hundred miles and nothing after that, I have never seen any smoke at all. I love it:D .

The Aeroturbine noise under load

The answer to the Areoturbine question is yes it does make noise under load at 2100 rpms but it is tolerable at 65mph=1900 rpm. That seemed to be the sweet spot for safe speed, power and noise and I averaged 13 mpg on the trip and that included the Smoky Mountains. That was not too bad for a brand new truck pulling 12k in my opinion. I have a Magnaflow muffler 4" (biggest one) about 1 foot down stream from the Aeroturbine but I am not sure if it is helping the noise any. If you remember! I am the the one that was asking if any one knows how to achieve quiet power? Unloaded the truck is acceptable with this combination but under load I was not really pleased with the noise in the cab. But if you really think about it 65mph is where you should criuse with that much weight anyway. I don't have the EGT/ boast installed yet but will in a few days and I will be interested in those numbers but I felt pretty safe on this trip because this is just a stock H. O. 6 spd. with no warrenty killing real tricks. I will be adding a Borla 4"/ 16" muffler in front of the Areoturbine and two Dynotec Votex power cones. One up front of it all and one after the Areoturbine because they really worked well in my last truck for the same problem. I modify them by drilling larger holes so they can handle diesel soot (see Summit racing Catalog part #DTC-72-32530 for these). Last time they made a 50% reduction in noise on my 01. And of course a real nice 5" s. s. resanator tip to gold plate the system then pray that it all works. ;) I do think that the TAG did help with the noise during crusing but under load at full throttle the whole thing really sounds off. As for the smoke if you guys are not seeing any either then it must be the nature of the beast but I will for sure, keep the TAG in because of the performance change that I felt when I put it in. More about my quest for quiet power as the experiment $$$$$ goes.

Fireman,

We are hearing pretty much the same story from all the testers of the new TAG, quicker spool up, holding a higher gear towing and some seat of the pants performance feel. Hopefully soon we will get some of these guys on the dyno and put some numbers with the TAG. For now all we can report is the results reported to us by those testing. Currently we are working on production of the TAG to fit the 2003 Cummins as well as the 94-2002 models and hope to make them readily available in the next couple of months.
