It's capitalism @ its finest....

Hammersley,

Our Dodge Caravan that we bought recently is a Canadian minivan. We saved THOUSANDS over buying a US one from a stealer. The stealers couldn't even come close to the price that we ended up paying for ours. We bought ours from a wholesaler importer. He took advantage of the exchange rate and made a nice fat profit & still was able to pass on the huge savings to us. It is a :{ shame that the stealers aren't passing on the savings to the US consumer. Find yourself a wholesaler like we did that imports from Canada and actually passes some of the profit on to you and you will be happy... :D

I know here in Alaska we get Canadan cars all time sold here. What the brokers do is buy them and convert the dashes from km to mph and a few other things to make them American. What the dealers here in Alaska and others are starting to do it is run the vin number, find out where it was intended to be sold at and if it was sold as a Canadan car the dealers will not honour the warrantee. This is with the DC co-operation. This came stright from a dealership owner. So I'm assuming it's true. BE carefull when you buy one of these just incase it's true. I know in my case it was true. I picked out an 98 3500 auto and took it to the dealer to have it checked over and they wouldn't touch it. Gave it right back to me and said that they wouldn't honour the warrantee now or at other anytime in the future because it was a converted Canadan truck.

Canadian Trucks

Several years ago on a trip I tried to buy a new Dodge at a DC dealer in Alberta. We were doing fine until he discovered I was a US resident. He told me that DC could pull his dealership if he sold new trucks to US citizens. He suggested that he sell it to his salesman, the salesman drive it around the block and then resell it to me. That would make it a used truck selling between 2 private citizens.

I passed on that scheme although the price was excellent.

Save your savings

There is no warranty on Canadian built vehicles sold in the USA. This policy is new this year, and follows G. M's lead from two years ago. The problem is, Chrysler USA has no warranty holdback money from the vehicle sale price to cover warranty expenses. The price is lower due to the weakness of the Canadian money, somewhere around 55 cents to our dollar. Besides, every time you turn the ignition key, a small recorded voice says "EH".

I have a canadian Dodge truck, bought it at a great savings from a ford dealer. (They lost money on it). I had a little go round with a dealer about warranty work, called DC they said yup no warranty, went back to ford dealer, they also own a jeep dealer and they did the front end work for me, got it in writting that the ford dealer will come good for any cost to me for warranty work. E-mailed DC they called me the next day said they don't cover warranty work on Canadian trucks but will look at things on a case by case basis and that it is basically up to the dealer, if they want to work on the truck DC will pay them. Just ran out of bumper to bumper but still have engine warranty and I feel comfortable that if I have a problem they will come good for it. If not the ford dealer will. DC also said it's in the warranty book that the warranties are not transferrable from country to country, don't have the book to check though.
