Somebody got a brilliant idea to put Green nozzle covers on gasoline pumps and black handles on Diesel pumps. Look for the green ULSD label on your pump before you fuel up.
I have observed just the opposite. Green on Diesel, and black on Gasolene.
Don't count on dispenser handle covers of different colors to tell you what type of fuel you are dispensing. READ THE SIGH ON THE DISPENSER There is no industry color code, and i still sniff the end of the nozzle to make sure the delivery driver dropped the correct product in the diesel tank

Come on now lets be honest, the real reason for the sniff test is we are a bunch of sick individuals and love the smell of diesel :-laf
Well I just return from a trip in Spain. Black for diesel and green for gas. I did the sniff test just to be sure... .
Also we complain about price, $4 per gallon on diesel. #@$%!
Never seen anything but green myself. I would guess, dont know for sure, that when they fill the underground tanks theres some kind of difference in the fill hole from gas to diesel to make it more than just the guy reading the cap on the tank.
