Posting this for a buddy. Truck is dropping out of lock up at the same time the the voltage gauge shows a sharp discharge. Any ideas? Truck is a 91,

pretty much stock. Thanks.

Sorry to break this to you but 91s dont have a lock up TC if that is what your refering to. If it is dropping out of OD (which I suspect is the case) check the wire plug-in at the hard transmision fluid lines. If this comes unpluged no OD is available. If loose it can go in and out.

Pcm

The fact that the voltage drops at the same time makes me suspect the PCM (behind the battery in the fender) It reads the crank sensor and then decides whether to charge the battery and put transmission into OD, etc.

Could be Crank sensor, but I would suspect the PCM or connection thereof.

I am assuming that your buddy has late 91 intercooled truck. The earlier ones had discrete voltage regulators and I believe no OD.
