Does anyone know the cummins part # for the grid heater relays? One of them is starting to melt on my sons truck ( 91. 5 ) Also , do they come as a set or can they be bought individually. How much money is he looking at to fix ? Thanks, Doug

I have never seen a cummins part number for the grid heater relays.

The orginal Dodge # is 4428102. But these relays went NS1 about 4 years ago.

The relays were made by White Rogers. Their # is 120-105111-1. This relay will not show in a White Roger catalog. But if you can find a dealer they can cross and give you a number that will work.

We used to have a thread in the Discontinued Parts section. But it has disapeared. Plus with the forum software change a while back the search function is about worthless now.

I hope someone still has the number written down and posts it.

I went and did a little searching. Looks like stancor # 120-901 is the one you need. This a type 4 terminal (isolated coil) with a standard mount. It has silver contacts in the relay. Here is a link with the relay spec's. It is in PDF format.

BTW White Rogers is a division of Stancor

DBohl, to tell you the truth I really can't remember which relay's I used, I just know that I put them in a year and a half ago and haven't one issue with them, and belive me my low compression motor doesn't like to start when it's cold without them.

Thanks for all the replies, it seems that the correct part is white rodgers 120-901 I'm going to order a pair of them today. I will post again to keep you all informed when we get them in the truck Thanks, Doug Jim, thanks for the old posts, alot of good info in them. I should mention that I'm ordering the relays from Allied Elec.com (Ft Worth TX ) 1-800-433-5700 . Philip, thanks for taking the time to do some reaserch as well. Doug

Paychk, Didn't mean to leave you out, I found alot great stuff in your links as well . Thanks again everyone, Doug

While we're talking about grid heaters and relays, I noticed this winter that my grid heaters are drawing a little more juice than they did in the past - is this 'cuz of the relays (getting old?) or is something else in play that I should be aware of?

As always, thanks for any input!!!

Mike

Brand new battery... . and where I used to see the factory IP volt gage at the 'top' edge of the lowest mark on the scale it's now a little 'below' that mark when we turn on the ignition on a cold truck.

So again, it looks like I'm seeing a little more current draw (evidenced by the lower voltage, i. e. , higer amp load) on the grid heaters than I did in the past. So since we were talking about relays and what they do when they get old, I was wondering could it be bad/old relays causing the increased current draw in my truck or shold I look elsewhere?

Thanks!

Could be a little corrosion at the connections. Clean and reinstall and see if it changes. It can't hurt. Might be inside the crimp connection too.

EDIT: That includes the grounds too.

When I had to replace my grid heater relays, I went to visit NAPA and got a couple of Ford starter solenoids. The were only about $14 each and are heavier than needed. They have been working fine for a couple of years now.

Well, the relays arrived yesterday (monday) and my son installed them on his truck, They are the same OEM part for alot less money. Dodge dealer gets $70 for the pair. Allied electric gets $16. 19 each and will sell them seperatly. As Philip mentioned above, it is a stancor part# 120-901, you can order online from www.alliedelec.com or call 1-800-433-5700 . They are in Fort Worth TX and shipped the relays UPS . Took three days from start to finish, very happy with the results. Hope this info helps someone. thanks for all the help guys, Doug

Glad to hear you have it up and running.

The reason I know the Dodge and White Rogers numbers is I had a grid heater relay stick in the closed position about 5 years ago. At that time Dodge only had 3 left in stock. I bought all 3. Two are setting on a self waiting for when I lose another one. These replacements has the White Rogers tag still on them. :D

I did find another company that sells the relay called Carlton-Bates they quoted me a price of $12. 85 each . But I think they only sell to other companies. I am waiting on a phone call to get more information and will post my findings. Doug
