Nope! Not at all. Just a good stock replacement. I was looking for a direct fit performance aluminum radiator. I could not find one so I went looking for a good stock replacement. Actually, I'm a little annoyed that when I called Griffin they said they did not have one for a cummins truck.
If I wasn't trying to tow a house at 65 up the mountains of Ca and my stock radiator would keep things cool I wouldn't spend the extra money either but there is no way the stocker can handle 500+ hp and a GCVWR of over 24k.
What I meant was that I hope you get the results you are looking for. I know you will see an improvement over your 12 year old radiator, as I expect to see an improvement over my 11 year old one. What I suspect is that a lot of efficiency of the radiator is lost while powering up mountains. 65 mph, uphill, with a big trailer requires a lot of boost. That compressed air becomes mighty hot, and the intercooler gets first dibs on the air flow, which is very detrimental to the cooling of the engine coolant. I may be wrong, but I don't think any radiator will disperse the heat that is generated under those conditions. I, for one, would be very interested in hearing how it works this summer.
blair my we are very happy with our griffin for the 396 elcamino it was custom made by them so it was a big bill for is but is out cools any radiator we have had in trk to date maybe find out who has d drowns old truck they put an aluminum one in that truck I can trecall what it was though?
I'm sure you have your new radiator by now. Does it look like this by any chance? The new OEM replacement is obviously aluminum, but the core is two inches thick compared to the original 2 1/4. How thick is the Griffin core?

Sorry for the delay guys but here are a few pictures of the Griffin Radiator. I have not put it in yet but we have put Cliffmans in, only problem is we can't get Cliffs truck running to see how it works.
Core is 3" thick and as you can see quality aluminum tanks. The install went pretty good with only one problem the stock bolts that hold the fan shroud were to long and needed to be cut and the holes moved slightly on one side of the plastic fan shroud to line up correctly. Other than that it fit nice.
Well the results are in the radiator was a success. From running 230+ in hot weather to maybe 195 was the hottest I could get pulling at 1200 EGT and 45+ psi of boost for miles at a crack, most of the time the gauge doesn't even move. To say the least I am very happy. If anyone has any questions or is interested in one I might be able to get a group buy going.
I answered that on the Best intercooler thread here is what I posted, the intercooler didn't seem to help much. I don't think it was any worse than stock but it was to close to tell for now. I will continue to test it in more situtions but for now I don't think it was worth the money.
Hey Blair, wow perfect timing for us Calif guys. Pulling my 5fver yesterday at 60mph with outside temps at 85 I was hitting close to the last line on temp gauge which I would say is about 220 or so. Guess I'll call and see what they have for a 97'
