Onan generator questions

Any heavy haulers?

Blair...

First. .

Good to see your still lurking in the neighborhood.

The Griffin you installed... .

When you did the install, since this is a tad thicker than the stocker, how was the fit with the fan?. The reason I ask is I have gone to the Flex-A-Lite fans and if the Griffin did not compromise the factory fit in depth I am certain I will have no issues and am going to replace my stocker... ... ... Good to here from you Andy,

The core of the radiator is thicker bit the overall thickness of the tank is the same. These Flex-A-Lite fans are electric I assume? My stock fan clearance looks to be the same. Let me know if there is anything else I can measure.

Took another trip to Vegas for May Madness and I must say it sure is nice not to have to slow down for coolant temp like in the past.

Just to chime in a bit... I had my Griffin Intercooler and radiator put in a few months back. I have pulled my 37ft. Everest 364Q many miles and had no problems. The egt's are down 200 + and the engine never gets over 195 deg. I just pulled out the Banks Ottomind and went with the Smarty. We'll see what happens when I give her some fuel while pulling. The Banks did ok... But I wanted something with adjustment and flexibility. I went to the Griffins because I lost a head gasket coming up out of El Paso last early fall. The reduction in temps has been very nice.

With all due respect to Griffin I decided to go old school and had a copper and brass 2 gen rad custom built with dimple tubes for my crew project. It was a lot more than $695  It will be a while before I can report on just how good it is as the truck is a long term project. I will be using a Duralite CAC. Shadrach

It is now the end of june and im sure you guys have been using these Griffens in the heat for over a year now...
Can we have another update??

Sure thing... . I am down in Texas right now. It has been 95+ for awhile now. I just pulled from Midland to Abilene @ 2. 5 hours. I am @ 25k - 26k loaded. The engine never got above 190 front / 195 rear. After getting to 88 ambient, the transmission went to 215 and I had to drop to 5th to let it cool down. #@$%! 210 is not bad but it quickly goes to 230 after that. I am really not sure what temp the oil is functional to... But I prefer to stay on the conservative side. ;) W/o towing the transmission never gets over 180.

I am going to call Griffin and see if they have a small cooler of some sort I can plumb into a custom pump, filter, cooler setup w/ -8 line. I do have the FAST coolers and it is ovious that they work great. But the trans needs more help while I am pulling heavy in the heat.

Sooooo... . The Griffin radiator is awesome, the intercooler keeps the egt's max @ 1200 with the smarty on 4 while pulling. I have seen 102 ambient while pulling and this seems to be no effect either. The 2 coolers were not cheap... but they were well worth the cost. :D

Mine is still workking great, it sure is nice not to have to watch the water temp as close as the pyro anymore.

I blew a head gasket going up the Guadalupes coming out of El Paso while pulling and loaded to 25k. Ambient was 85f. I have pulled in many situations same load all but the same grade. I have never gotten over 190f on the factory front and 195f Autometer rear. I feel pretty confident that I could take the Guadalupes again with no problem.

Stock radiator I got over 190/195 rather often.

I have no worries.

My NV5600 is overheating and my engine has not. Looking into puting a custom filtration, radiator, pump system on the trans. I will use a Griffin for that as well.

Radiator update a few years later, although mine is still working fine we have started to see a few failures. It seems the sealant between the tubes and tank are leaking and so far I am not impressed with the customer service from Griffin. One was sent back several months ago with no response from Griffin and after several phone calls I am still nowhere. I informed them of several failures all the same and was brushed off without an answer. I will keep you posted as this continues.

aluminum radiators do not cool as well as copper and brass radiators..... and you can have a good shop build a better radiator than aftermarket... ...

Find me a shop that can build one and we will talk but I never could find one.
