I'm thinking about getting a grill cover to reduce air flow through the radiator during winter months. I presume this would help bring the engine to temperature quicker (I only drive 7 miles to work). Does anybody have any experience with these things? Are there any draw backs or cautions I should be aware of? Thank you!

The Lund's work ok. What is works better and is cheaper is a piece of cardboard with a 8" round hole cut out of the center, slipped in-between the innercooler and radiator.

I thought Gerg was gonna ask what we use to cover our bar-b-que grills. Sure would look funny driving my truck with a garbage can sticking out the front.

From my experience, buy the FIA winterfront. It comes with a summer front/bugscreen and has two velcroed flaps for warmer winter days. Top quality and very attractive, with a quilted vinyl fabric construction. Priced competitively. First class.

Gerg,

I believe that there is a string on the 24V (non-drivetrain). There's a neat picture of a 2500 with Lund grille inserts. I responded and illflem got back to me. I've since put the screens (not the solid- inserts) in, and they do help with warm-ups. Check out JCWhitney's Dodge section and you'll see them. Nice Quality for about $78 delivered.

the grill inserts work great, i ordered mine through the local auto parts store. i found out later that jc whitney is cheaper. take all or a couple of the inserts out if you are going long distances on the highway.

I bought mine from Checker Auto Parts. They are pretty much common at better parts houses, or can be ordered. Sorry, I don't have an address for them. They are VERY popular here. By the way, I removed mine Saturday and it's snowing hard right now. Geez!

If you are looking for something efficient but cheap, I will tell you what I use.
I use an old summer horse blanket OR an old feed bag. I place it in front of both radiators. This is discrete, will help the engine warm up faster and stays warmer. It also prevents the winter road salt to deteriorate the radiators. There is still enough fresh air to properly cool down the engine for normal driving. When towing just remove part or the whole blanket. I did that on my 97 12v and now on my 99 24v without any problem and very happy of that. I have PM and RV injectors and live in quebec Canada where it is very cold in winter driving on salty roads for months. My radiators keeps clean, salt free, as well as the whole engine by the way. This gives also faster and more heat inside the truck.
Hope this helps
