Does anyone know if the headlight and hood latch placement on the 91-93 core support is the same as the 86-90?? I know they are in a different place between 81-85 & 86-90. And I know the 91-93 headlights don't match the 81-85. I'm trying to decide which core support and grillework to use on my crewcab when I do the CTD conversion.

Use the 93 grill it makes the crewcab's look really sweet looking that way you core support will have everything you need to bolt up intercooler if you are useing one . 81 to 90 are all the same on the headlights themselves

The lower grille panel is different as well. The 81-85 is different looking from the 86-90 but you can use the "wrong" grill and headlights with either panel. The 91-93 "must" have the proper panel, grille and headlight door combo. The grille mounts differently on the the 91-93 panels. Shadrach

yes but with just a little tiny fit of fab for you can get any grill from the mid 70's through 93 to fit ..... i have got a 75 grill on my 92 core support, now i had to cut a few brackets and cut a bit of the lower valance to make it fit the factory inter cooler ... . but it will work

No they are not. I already did the swap from 81 to 86 on my old beater gas burner. The headlights are not in the same location on 81-85 as 86-90. They look the same, but if you make the mistake I did and put the truck back together without checking or measuring you find out they will not line up with the grille without modifying it.

Headlights are different, but the hood catch is the same.

Headlights are different compared to 86-90?

Shadrach, I knew the lower panel would be different. I've seen two on 81-85 trucks. One just left it flopping at the bottom because he had the wrong lower panel. The other used the correct lower panel and tried to relocate the headlights rather crudely. My problem is I've never seen an 86-90 with the grille swap to know what had to be done.

Mopar Tim, I've considered the swap to 79 sheetmetal. I have a small stash of 79-80 parts I've been collecting to redo my WarlockII parts truck, and considered using that truck to make a 1 of none(79 WarlockII crewcab CTD). But I think I'll wait and save that truck for a 4bt swap with a Little Red stack on the pass side.

On my 84 I put on a 86-90 lower grille panel when I painted the truck but kept the entire 84 grille assy ,it fit with no problems. Later I changed to the 86-90 grille assy because I liked it better. My 92 "parts" truck's lower panel is different. Over the life of this body style, even back to 72, the lower grille panel changed several times. My buddies 76 , which had signal lights in the panel had a 78 grille on it, so he had two sets of lights. Shadrach

Agreed. I know if I use 91-93 grille that I will need the matching lower panel. What I'm trying to find out is will the headlight openings in the 91-93 grille line up with the 86-90 headlights or will I need to change core supports. I don't have a 91-93 core support to reference. I know for a fact that the headlight position was changed between 85 and 86, because I had to take my truck back apart and use the 86 core support so the headlights aligned with the headlight doors.

grill usage

Your best bet is to use a 91. 5 to 93 grill, rad/core support and lower filler panel. It uses the larger side tank rad. . The 91. 5 to 93 parts will fit all D and W 100 threw 350 series trucks from 1972 threw 1993. .

Any and all of 72-93 hoods will work. The only exception is the latch bar that is held on by 2 bolts. . There were quite a few different ones used over the years. You will need to use one that shuts at the correct height...

NO NO... . !!!! They will not ! I have made them line up in the past ... But it is not for the faint at heart. . You will need a mig welder and the 91 to 93 headlight buckets... You will also need to make all the other grill attachment brackets and weld them on... It is not worth the trouble unless you are very desperate, have a lot of talent and a whole lot of free time on your hands

I'm sure you know this but for the benifit of those reading this don't forget that hoods from 72-78 had the two center recessed areas and the 79-93 didn't. If you put a 79-93 hood on a 72-78 truck ( we've done it ) you will need to also change the panel at the base of the windshield and also the wiper pivots, because they are longer to stick through the raised panel. how much metal fab is required to fit a 90 grill on a 93 truck. i assume you have to replace the marker lights with the old style, and i no you have to move the headlights, but is that all thats required?

I want to keep my original rad saddle on my 84 and the 86-90 grille that I have on there right now. I plan on using a 2nd gen intercooler, so I will have to cut it up anyway. I will cut off the rad mounts from a damaged saddle I have so I can use a 93 style rad. My rad has a bigger core but uses 93 tanks. The plastic grille gets damaged too easy. Yeh the 91-93 grille would make the truck "look" newer but when you are modifing a vehicle you get to use parts from all diferent years if you like. Thats what I like about this site you get to share your knowledge. Thanks guys. Shadrach
