Grinding Noise On Turns

On certain slow speed turns ( right or left) I get what sounds like a grinding noise. This is not stop to stop just normal slow speed turns. No other symptoms drives straight,stops straight. Need clues as warrant expires soon. Thanks for any help.

Does it sound like its coming from the front or rear? If its rear my first thought is the Limited Slip acting up. What do you have in the rear end and did you add any friction modifier? But I hope its not a "Grinding" noise... it should be more of a "chatter" so to speak. Sorry been up since about 6pm on Thursday night... ... .

Wonder if it could be front brake noise? My Dakota's front rotors will shift VERY slightly due to operational play in the sealed ball bearings during turns. This very small play will allow the rotors to rub the pads. It is worse when the pads are near end-of-life.

I have a groan in my front end, too. I have no idea what it is. I assume it's a drivetrain issue because it will only make the noise while turning in gear. If I push in the clutch, the noise will stop. Got me stumped



I've only got 8000 miles and it's been doing this for the last 2k.

The noise is probably bearing play noise just like tesas diesel had. When you are turning corners in gear, the drivetrain is still pushing the truck in a straight line, causing force upon the rotors/hubs of the front end. When the clutch is pushed in, the truck is just coasting and there is no forward push from the drivetrain. That forward push from the drivetrain will cause the front bearings/rotors to move or flex if there is play.



Look at the backside of the front hub assembly to see if the back seal is leaking. If it is leaking, there is probably excessive play in the hub and you should have it replaced. Also look for grease slung on the inside of the front rims.



I had a bad hub at 155 miles, so it can happen...

Try checking the u-joints on the front axle. Sounds unlikely, but had this happen to a friend at work. He couldn't figure out what the problem was until one flew apart. They're not cheap, either. I think they cost him $47. 00 a piece.
