Rodents in the yard...

Pauxatauney Phil , the ground hog from Pennsylvania is vacationing here in my backyard in Michigan. We just saw him the other day peeking out from our storage bin area. I'd like him to move on and with his family if he has one to some other place. Any advice would be appreciated. Thanks.

I find ground hogs to be quite amusing and I always try to leave them be. With that said, they tend to be really destructive around buildings and can require some conservation assistance. In the worst cases, there have been a few individuals I had to move with a . 223 and there was one really big one I had to use a 7mm mag on.

I've had one for about 5-7 years in my backyard, has had a few litters and we have been coexisting peacefully. As long as you don't have a garden it shouldn't be a problem. They like to dig around foundations for their burrows.

Thanks for the info. My wife has a great garden this year so we are probably feeding them very well. Maybe the city will give us a trap and we can move them to our nature center.
