Grounding Auxiliary Fuel Tank

I am installing an auxiliary fuel tank inside of an aluminum chest tool box in the bed. The bed has a sprayed- in bed liner. What are the suggestions for grounding the fuel tank to the frame of the truck? I don't think the mounting bolts are sufficient for grounding especially where I can't get to the area between the cab and the bed to grind the paint away under the bolts/nuts. Will an insulated flexible conductor copper # 10 wire with soldered connectors work? The auto store says that aluminum braided grounding straps are available by special order.

Sure, a flexible light guage wire will work fine. You are only discharging static buildup, not carrying heavy amperage. Just don't use a wire that is so small it would be easily broken.

If mountinh it to the aluminum box,use an aluminum connector or strap. If you use dissimilar metals they will corrode very quickly causing a poor connection.

I've seen first hand what an ungrounded fuel tank can do !! :--) :--) :--)

Thanks for your good comments.

I decided to go with the # 10 for the structural strength and went directly from the fuel tank out through the AL box to the bed ground and then a jumper to the cab ground. This should be sufficient. I'll check the resistance now and record it for future reference and watch for corrosion and increased resistance.
