Whoa. Bad info.

Both of those lockers change out the carrier. While it's true you don't take out the pinion and therefor don't change pinion preload, or pinion depth. A new carrier can and will mess up backlash. About half the time a new carrier will install using the old shim setup and work, but the other half of the time there can be either no backlash or excessive backlash. DO NOT put in a new carrier without checking the backlash. I have set up hundreds of ring and pinions, and 20-30 carrier replacements (arb, detroit etc) and it's a 50/50 chance.

I apoligize for that, I didn't intend for it to be the definitive how to on changing carriers. If your not familiar with changing gears don't do it, I did make it seem like it was that easy. I learned how to do it because I didn't like the ridiculously high prices I was always quoted. ALWAYS check the back lash with the paint or my prefered method with a dial indicator.

dan shss,

What do you mean about grinding the housing, that doesn't sound to good. Where do you have to grind?

Sorry to get off the tread about the hubs, but I am interested in getting the hubs maybe after Xmas

IIRC, the GM housing (what the locker is designed for) is aluminum and therefore cast slightly differently than the cast iron dodge... you need to slightly grind the inside of the housing to get the carrier to clear... not that big of a deal. And this is for installation of the locker, not for the hub installation just to be clear.

I'd be game for a group buy after XMas also.

Mpg

Looks like I am getting a solid 2+ MPG gain with these hubs, not much but anything helps. I still need to post pics with 02 style caps with the hubs... .

No Duallys?????

Finally found the phone number for Steve at Dynatreac to order a set of hubs. He said they won't work on a dually!!!!!!!! :{ :{ :--)

I haven't seen that posted before.....

Bummer!

Why not? That doesn't make sense to me. Don't the SRW and DRW have the same front ends?

They both use a D60F or AAM 9. 25, but the DRW uses a set of adapters to widen the stance for the budd-like dually wheels. I don't think they offer that with a dynatrac.

I was at Dynatrac with my dually So we could put the hub conversion kit on for the test and low and behold we try to stick the new hub through the dually wheel adapter and it would not fit...

Dynatrac is working on the fix,,I will post more when they call me. .

Please let us know. I am planning on getting the hubs too, but it's a dually. :(

Their hubs must be different than the 80/90 hubs? Some of those use adapters on the common D60F, not the unitized bearing version we have...

I thought these were supposed to be off-the-shelf parts short the spindle???

We need to show Dynatrac our interest level.

well at least this shows there is some interest.

Steve at Dynatrac told me that they are going to experiment with machining the dually front wheel adapters to see if there is still enough "meat" to hold the wheel on. But they need a guinea pig donor truck. He wasn't sure of the interest level. He said he only had one other dually inquiry.

Maybe we should let him know we have at least 4 right here.
