Group rate on six speed shifter

I just got mine installed today, and have a couple of quick foot notes.

First the instructions were not for the 03 model. The secound was for removing the floor console on the 03 4x4 Six speed, there is three screws holding the console down. One is under a cup holder, anothed under the small squarebox in front of the transfer case shifter, and the third is under the transfer case shifter boot. To get to it you must remove the boot by gently prying inward with a small screwdriver to release the retaining clips and it will lift upward.

I also had to drill out the spacer plate for the bushings to go through. Other than that, it wasn't too bad!

got mine in yesterday and installed it that night install was easy as pie the hardest part was prying off the plastic deal on the end of the old shift lever and putting it on the new one mine was all common since no cutting drilling bla bla bla ect truck was an 02 install took 1hr (and I had to search threw my crap to find some rtv) needless to say Im happy (except that genos took 1-1. 5 months to get it here )(but these things happen)

Got mine from Geno's on Monday ... ..... installed it that night and Boy, is it ever sweet! Head'in down the road this weekend for two weeks with the RV and gonna go thru the gears If your "short shifter" hasn't arrived yet, hang in there! CliffOo.

6 spd shifter

the short throw shifter will fit any NV5600 transmission, therefore it will fit from 2000 to current 6 spds.

If the price is right, I'm in too

Be honest

My shifter went in like everyone else but it doesn't shift that much better. My trans has always shifted good now with a $170. 00 shifter,its not much different. I'm not saying it's a bad product,just better ways to spend your money.

Your missing out! It's not suppose to make it shift better. Whoever thinks that should have bought an auto.



It a SHORT shifter, uh shorten the shift throw. I would have paid $250 for one.

Well, I got mine today, and installed it. It was pretty easy, the only problem I had was that I have an aftermarket shift handle and had to readjust it (it was completely upside down).



Anyway, I love the thing. I used to have to work at shifting fast... now all I do is shift normal and it goes along pretty quick. It also seemed to stiffen up my shifts. It's strange, because it wouldn't do that by design. Maybe my shift tower bolts were loose before the install (I did take it off once before, for the clutch swap).

Did that to mine also. Actually to the point I was missing 3rd once in a while. But after 2 weeks it went back to normal.

Well now that I have the short shifter installed I will need to get the arm lengthening I had done reversed.



It seems to amplify any notchiness that was present before, I had a con fe put in about the same time so it might be that.



Really shortens the throw up.



I didn't see any of the problems that other people reported, of course mine did not come with any longer bushings. it seems to me that you would not any longer bushings.

Got mine in and i agree with you CFAR about the notchiness. I'm hoping it will get better as my truck breaks in (only 12K miles so far). Don't know if shorter throws are worth the notchy feel.

short shifter impressions

Install - I installed mine a couple days ago and have driven it a few times.

As for the install, it took me about 2 hours. I had trouble getting everything lined up and had too much RTV. So I took it out, cleaned it up, assembled it off the trans to make sure everything lined up - it did. Then I completed the install with no problems.



Impressions - I guess "notchy" is a fair description of the new feeling. The feel of the shift is no better or worse. I wouldn't really expect a change in that regard - it's the same transmission, same oil that I should change.



The physics of the deal is that you now have LESS leverage, thus the shorter throw. I think it actually takes more force on the stick to engage, actually I'm sure of it. I'm talking a pound or two here, not much but enough to feel. You still have to be deliberate in the shift action.



The main thing I notice is a shorter throw, feels like half of stock. Go figure?



Evaluation - I would say, for average daily driving, this modification is quite unnecessary. If you're drag racing a 6-speed, you've got issues anyway. So what's my excuse? I normally drive with the center console up because it's in my way, especially for shifting. But when the family goes on road trips, it comes down and the laptop (for rear seat entertainment and navigation) goes up. Having to shift around all that mess is awkward at best. So, I think now with the smaller shift pattern, all that shifting business will be more comfortable. There, fully rationalized.

I would have to agree with you the shorter throw is amplifying any notchinessessess.

CFAR the con FE adds a notchy feel to the shifter. At least mine did when i had that clutch in. It's the extra weight of the metal clutch disc. The syncros have to work a little harder to get everything spinning at the same rate for engagement. You are correct though, the shorter throw amplifies it a bit, but i love it.

Yeah you're are probably right about the FE. I only drove about 150 miles or so before I put in the Short Shifter.
