Ive been hearing a kind of growling noise when I make a turn from a stop (parking lot, stop sign, etc) It sounds like it is coming from the rear end. Ive been hearing it for a while when Ive been pulling my TT. I always thought it was just the sound my sway control, on the hitch, was making because I might have had it too tight.

Anyway, now I notice it when Im not pulling anything. If I start from a dead stop, take my foot off the gas and break and just let idle pull it around, I hear the noise. I guess I should have tried to see if I can hear it when I step on the gas or the break. But, if I step on the gas, I think the engine noise hides the growl.

Any ideas ?

Yes, I do have the lsd diff. And, there is some vibration (I think). Ill give the friction modifier a try.

Thanks for the suggestion,

just add a little at a time, take it for a drive to get it mixed up. to much modifier and it will slip and defeat the purpose. I had the same problem after a Grease Monkey oil change, I told them it needed the modifier, but I don't think they put any in.

good luck I hope this solves your problem... ... . GH

I notice you have a 4x4. My 2nd gen 4x4 made a noise like you describe that started while towing and slowly got worse. It was the drivers side front axle U joint. It only made the noise while turning. Easy to check by jacking up the front wheels with the wheel turned sharply and rotating the wheel by hand to check for play in the joint. Easy to see a bad one, it will be loose or may be bleeding rust. If you have over 70K on the truck it's a very real possibility.

Well, I took my truck into the dealer to look at the growling noise problem. They said it could be that it needs some friction modifier. But, they are going to pop the cover on the rear diff to make sure there are no broken parts.

Silly me. I guess I didnt read the warranty info close enough. Im pretty sure I remember the drive train (which I would assume would also include the rear diff) had the 5 year 100k mile warranty on it. I guess I was wrong.
