I just installed a set of 3K GSK's from Piers, everything set back to stock specs. When I fired the truck up it would not idle, but would easily rev to 3000+ rpm's, so I just bumped up the idle back to normal. On my test drive the truck was really touchy above 1500 rpm and would want to take off with little throttle movement, and I also noticed a slight vibration at about 65 mph. I called Piers again and he said to go down one click and see what happens, so I did. Now the truck runs really good, pulls REAL hard at all rpm's, but the vibration at around 65mph is worse? Any ideas on what the vibration could be from? Also, my stud protrusion was about half what stock is supposed to be, it was roughly . 025". I'm guessing that's why it wouldn't idle after the new springs, but why would it idle there with the old springs? Any idea's guys?

I don't have a kit in mine. But mine runs rough till it hits 1200 rpm. Piers is really leaning toward a governor problem on mine.
 
Take some time and see if the vibration is at the speed or RPM, note the RPM and check it again in all the gears and neutral. On the springs if you will put them in and tighten them up till you get the first initial click then go one more, close it up and drive it and see if it needs one more click, if the idle dropped the springs are too loose but that is fine, just adjust the idle back up..... gives you room for adjustment. If you have a pump vibration it may have been there before and now it is just amplified, stumble works the same way, also on the spring change the idle (biggest spring ) should not have come out and if it did it need to go back in along with the shims that were in the pump... ... just trying to cover all the bases. Touchiness comes with it, believe me you pump isn't touchy your just not use to it, with a racepump you will learn to drive in 1/2" increments.

Here's what I have tried so far. 1: After installing GSK to stock specs truck would not idle but pulled hard at all rpm's, slight vibration at 18-1900rpm. I bumped up the idle back to original but the truck was really touchy from 1250 rpm's and up in 1st and 2nd gear. 2: Went down one click on both springs per PDR and truck runs good, no throttle surge at 1250 rpm but vibration is worse at 18-1900 rpm. 3: Went down one more click to see what happens and now truck is almost totally undrivable in 1st and 2nd gear. Once you hit 1250 rpm the motor just jumps in rpm's almost uncontrolably. Once you hit 3rd everything is all good but man those first 2 gears are tough to control. Vibration is still there as it was in step 2. I am now at a complete loss. I am wondering if I should try going down one more click or go back to the original setting? Maybe I should go up one click from my baseline just to see what it does?
 
I talked to a guy who rebuilds/tunes these pumps and his suggestion was to shim the springs in the retainer nut untill they are flush with each other. His thought was that with all the springs level with each other, there is no sharp transition between them.



Mine is not THAT touchy, but that was his idea for a solution. I"m still thinking one day I will put in the 4k springs and maybe I'll give that a try.

When you go down I hope that means you are loosening spring tension or turning the nut CCW and not running it down the stud further (CW).



Do not be alarmed your stock setting is different than Piers' directions or what others post. Everyone tends to be wrong on the measurement of their stud protrusion ( I think its a <em>guy</em> thing). The pumps are all different.



A touchy throttle usually means the springs are too tight.



On a manual transmission you will normally loose low rpm fueling control. That is the tradeoff for extended RPM.
