In the middle of my 3KGSK install. Just pulled the fuel shutoff solenoid and found access to the 7/8 plug underneath. Two questions.

The rubber boot on the bottom of my fuel shutoff solenoid is totally rotted out to the point where the plunger will just fall out. Do I need to replace the whole solenoid?

Also, the 7/8 plug has safety wire in front of it..... cut the wire... right? Piers directions didn't say anything about bustin' through any safety wire or rewiring any safety wire.

Sure appreciate the comments fellas!

Thanks,

Gill

I am not sure if you can just buy the rubber boot or not. I have heard of people using a piece of bicycle inner tube for a replacement. I think that is the route I am going to try when I replace my stock boot soon. Yes you have to remove the safety wire to get in the side of the pump for the GSK, and no you don't have to replace it.

Interesting idea, the inner tube thing. My son may have a flat by morning... hmmmm... .

I guess the solenoid is easy enough to get off. I've got a AFC kit to do next... I may just put on a new one (solenoid) when I do the AFC kit.

Thanks Bill

Yeah, you can get the boot seperately. I just got mine from Andy Redmond ( -- email address removed -- ). Drop him a line and he'll get you one too I'm sure.

I've found that the innertube lasts longer than the factory boot plus for $4 you get enough for 20 rigs. Attach with cable ties.

You won't be changing that solinoid just because you have it off when you find out how much it costs. Two thumbs up for the flat tire on the kids bike in the morning.

$400 WOW!

:--)

Just got back from the parts guy this am to buy my new solenoid... . I was willing to go to about $50 to get the new part... .

They had to carry me back to the truck after the parts dude told be all about the $400 price tag... ...

Ok so... . back to my kids bike tire. He can have a whole new bike for less than what Dad's adventure to the parts counter would have cost.
