GSK installation help

I'm in the process of installing a #5 plate and 3000 rpm GSK from Piers on my 95.



The plate was no problem. Directions were straight forward.



On the GSK, I have the solenoid removed, plug cap removed and have the engine rotated to where one of the spring heads is visible. Piers instructions say simply to remove the spring. How exactly is that done?? Does it screw off or are there keepers like a valve spring? Also, I didn't expect the oil level to be high enough to run out the cap hole. That's normal, I guess?



Any help will be greatly appreciated!

Lynn, after marking and mesuring the height you just unscrew that cap. You can make a special screw driver with a gap for the stud in the center but I didn't. I just poked it in the slot and stirred it off. Leave the big spring alone. Chec the other posts on this in the last couple of days.

Snap ring pliers work real good till you get it finger loose.

I just drove it for the first time with the plate and springs installed. WOW!! Can't believe it's the same truck I've driven all these years!

The Gsk makes an amazing difference on the way the truck runs!!! Oo. Oo.

for the 3K kit a screw driver in one side will work but you will need something more sunbstantial for a 4K kit.



i took a piece a flat steel (an old specialty wrench for something i have owned ??) and ground it to fit snugly in the slots, and just clear the stud in the center. i just clamp it in a pair of visegrips to do the job

I didn't try this, but if I were to do it over again, & not really having anything too accurate to measure with, (Eyeballs) I'd make a couple of small tin foil balls, and push one down on the end of each spring set. That would give me an impression of the thread protrusion to have for reference, after it comes apart. Something to look at closely, & maybe try to get measurements from, if needed. I lost oil from mine too, but went in later to put the big shims back in, & found most of the oil is gone if the engine has been sitting a while. I too removed ALL the shims, the first time.
