Bought a kit from TST a year ago. What are the differences between a 3k and 4k kit? I think I remember the sales lady saying they were all in one kit. Do you just not use the small inner spring?

Sorry about the dumb question.

Call TST. I put my spring kit in so long ago I don't even remember the specifics of the job.

Thanks Phil. You are right. I installed the springs yesterday. Went down from the top of the pump, because I wanted to see what plate was in it, and where is was (forward or back). Bought the truck off E Bay and didn't know much history of it.

The plate was forward, and my guess is that it is a stock plate. The Gov arm does not touch the plate when its in the forward position. Yes the shut of solenoid was in the run postion.

Does the gov arm need to touch the plate when its forward?

Thanks

Dave

It's probably hitting the AFC arm... . the AFC arm will keep the govenor arm from touching the plate until enough boost pushes the AFC back.

Dummy me... you would have had the AFC arm off to see in there correct. There is an adjustment for the arm and I'm sure someone has the pic or search for it on here.....

Nascar Mark in an older post told a guy to back off the spring tension on the afc arm, reinstall, then play with the spring tension.

I am just wondering if the Gov lever needs to hit the plate? --Engine not running, fuel shut off in the the run postion.

I don't believe the governor lever will hit the plate until the governor is actually spinning. With the solenoid up and the throttle pushed, the lever will get close but not actually touch the plate. It's been too long since I adjusted mine to remember the exact details but you just have to turn the adjustment screw on the back until the lever arm is about where you want it with the solenoid in the run position. You may be able to get a better adjustment if you reach in with a screw driver and push the lever forward to contact the plate, but again, it's only right with the engine running.

I think the original idea was to adjust it up a tad if it felt like the lever may be getting hung up under the plate when the engine is started and you press into the throttle to get moving. If you adjust it so it contacts the plate just above the nose, then when idleing it shouldn't ever be under the plate.
