I was poking around on the Cummins QuickServe site and the spec for the stock crank dampener is listed at 2650 RPM & below. While I think there shouldn't be any problem spinning to 3000 RPM, knowing the limitations of the stock dampener would allow all to make an informed decision.

I asked PRD about this and spoke to Piers himself. He told me that guys are NOT changing out the balancer. I did mention that Cummins has a higher rated balancer but he did not recommend it.

I hope mine is!!!

The thing I see in my bus fleet is that all the engine oiul leaking out around these dampeners really takes it's toll. The rubber become soft and begins to migrate out from the two halves. I have some new ones here that need installed but can't recall what I paid for them... ... ... ... ..... I'll look.

Cummins # 3918999 @ 155. 91 This is for a 1996 engine. Looks just like the ones on the first gen engines.

well you could always go to a fluidampr. I was just on the phone with them and they said they will work on are older trucks 91 and down. the one they list for 92 and up has pickup slots on it and the other one doesn't. he recommended the one with out if you don't need the pickup slots.

The Cummins service manual lists two damper styles. One is two piece rubber damper. The other is one piece fluid something or other. I have not seen a two piece rubber damper. I have only worked with the one piece. They list different speeds as well. The two piece is listed as 2,500 and below. The single piece is listed as 2,500 and above.

This doesn't sound like it jives with what Paychk found.

I also just found this;

Viscouis one piece, 2500 above

Rubber element two piece, 2500 below.

We are probably all wrong.
