All those who have guages installed and you've some pictures to share, post them here. Many of us are ready to buy and need some help deciding. Night pictures would be real helpful. Thanks!

The picture quality is not the best, but maybe this will give you an idea of how a dash mount looks. #ad

spa's rule, here is a pic of some gauges I did

<img src=http://www.mypage.onemain.com/Brandon&Danelle/Dscn0011.jpg WIDTH=640 HEIGHT=480>

gauges left to right

1=boost and oil temp

2=pre fuel filter fuel pressure and pre-turbo pyrometer
3=post fuel filter fuel pressure and post-turbo pyrometer
the red buttoms are programming buttons for each gauge
the red switch on the left is to enter programming mode w/o turning off ignition source

it is pretty cool and very user friendly and oh so accurate as heck I have a pic of an a pillar on my site too if you want to see

Not sure if this comes thru... search back posts for my name and "pillar"... ... ... . http://albums.photopoint.com/j/View?u=1496754&a=11290470&p=41546483&Sequence=0

I did a far amount of research on this "pillar replacement" thing, before I pulled the trigger on this unit... Just as a lot of you have. One thing I learned, on the full units... they all looked identical!. . Almost like they were made in the same mold(?) HMMMMMMM, could this be?
I wouldn't be surprised... You don't have to use your original cover, if you use a full "replacement", it seem like most of them will go on without the factory unit behind it... It's the securement thing you have to work out... ..... #ad

Real good pictures so far. How do you rate you difficulty of install?(1 easy---10 hard)
Brandon: Nice pic site. How do you like the guage looks at night?
Katdiesel/Rollcast: How do you like the night backlighting of Autometer?
CCahill: Did you paint your pillar? Did you buy it through VDO? Did the pillar mount cover or replace factory pillar? Any tweeter difficulties?

You're right Brandon, SPA gauges rule! Nice installation... you might want to rotate the boost/temp. gauge clockwise a little to match the other two. #ad

BTW, did you use a friction fit to retain the gauges in their respective locations or did you use the retaining brackets SPA provided?

Kat, where is your Autometer 50 psi boost gauge?

Its sitting right here next to me..... (along with several other parts) I ain't planning on putting it in until the HX40 finally goes on the truck, no reason to change it until I need it.

Lordsman -

I love the way they look at night, but not everyone does. I have blue covers over my bulbs so the light is "Darker" then most, You can't read the gauge completely but I memorized the gauge faces so when I see the needle I know what its at.

Would trade my Automete Ultralights for nuthnig... I love and its the only gauge I'll have in my truck.

Brandon,

Could you say more about the backligting on the SPA's? Do they have two power sources, that is, is the backlight source separate from the electronics? I really like the look of them, but I won't put up with bright instruments at night -- it's not good for night vision.

Thanks, Matt

The backlighting is fixed on the spa's it is either on or it is off, they are bright, but the green is subltle enough and you do have the ability through the programming menu to toggle them off and on all you need is an inline switch on the ignition source. On my site you could email Mr Tackett and ask him about the backlighting if you like. The bottom line is that you can toggle them off and on with proper wiring, NOT adjustable... With the backlight off you can rely on the two warning lights on each gauge to tell you when you have gone over a user adjustable limit, the programmable idiot, I mean smart lights.

CCahill,

How did you attach yours? Screwed on?

I was wondering about some 100mph velcro.

Oops, too late. What silencer ring? (More fun than my 98 SST)

friction fit, custom painted, yes it does look just a bit crooked. we still got a lot of potential with the external outputs of the spa, the lighting is a sore subject with some, but lemme tell ya if you want to turn backlight off and on easily then just add an inline switch on the ignition power source and turn them off and on at will, soon I will post my wife's current two pillar pod with boost, egt, fuel press, and rear diff, she drives an eth, the gauges are really trick, I have installed right at 15 so far and there are a few tricks to avoid any funky readings, primarily on the press connector, you should take apart and reconnect the terminal block for the press connector as in manufacturing the wires sometimes have not been skinned very well and sometimes insulated the contact, resulting in funky readings sometimes

Take a look at the first SPA's to be used in a diesel truck-
#ad

Mike asked SPA to change the DG106 boost/temp that you see at top to read boost/egt. This became known as the DG111 which we now offer, thanks to SPA and Mike Crossley. The lower gauge is for the "Lazy transmission" #ad
. It is basically a pressure/temp which will reflect line pressure and fluid temp of your automatic.

The SPA line has become wildly successful and is currently backorderd as the manufacturing catches up to demand.

Any of you guys with the SPA gauges have problems with the sun/heat affecting the ability to read the gauages? If so, what do you do to try and prevent this? Any problems in the colder climates?

HVAC, SPA changed the lower of the two gauges you have pictured from Oil/Oil to read Trans. Temp. /Rear End Temp... unless it is the DG 113 (pressure/temp. ) they also offer... if so, does it say Oil/Oil or Pressure/Temp. ?

RollCast, I used to think the same way about watching digits as opposed to a quick glance at a needle HOWEVER, SPA has two warning lights (one red, one yellow) for each combination gauge (for each monitored function) which is user adjustable. With this arrangement it is even safer than having to glance at a needle... when the warning light comes on (and you WILL see it) you had better take immediate action.

If I can get up with John_P I'll get a picture of his, they look real good and they sit right up next to the steering wheel in a 3 pod setup. Pete
