Lordsman,

I find the rim lighting of the AutoMeter gauges to be acceptable, I do run with my dash lights a full power. There is a SLIGHT refection of the gauges in the windshield at night when using the dash mount, this is very minor to me. Autometer gauges are among the very best in analog gauges, which I prefer analog in a driving application. Yes, Digital's are state of the art, but I find reading four needles easier than reading four sets of numbers, quick glances while watching the road.

There is a link in my sig to my SPA... I am getting ready to add another for fuel press.

I have a picture that is pretty clear as to the EGT labeling of DG-111 that HVAC speaks of.

slowneasy,
You ask about readability in sun and heat. Yes, I have had issues with this as have some others. Basically, it is a LCD display so expect it to black out in the heat.
Below is a quote from Ron Mathis at SPA

The displays are supposed to be completely unaffected by heat up to 50C (122F) and at some point after that they (like all LCD's) begin to fade/black out. There are military specification displays out there that are supposed to withstand 70C (158F)and we're looking into changing the specification.

Pretty much though if it is 122°F in your truck while you are driving, you aren't too comfortable and neither is the gauge. #ad
If you look at the picture in JR2's signature you can see what the blacking out looks similar to. I doubt that picture is actually affected by black out, it is probably just the picture, but that is similar to what the gauge looks like when it blacks out, only it will be worse. I personally don't do anything to try and prevent this other than not parking in the sun. I have not any cold related problems.

For those looking for night pictures of SPA's, check out this page at DIS.
Cheers,
Bryan

OR
CCahill
I also like your VDO guages.
I went to both sites, but couldn't find the guages I was looking for. Any help would be MUCHO appreciated!

what did they cost you?
thanks Richie 2
P S I have seen your truck around nice.

Pete:

Thank you so much for taking the pictures
of my gauges with your digital camera. They
really came out good!

------------
For any of the members that are interested
in this setup:

1. ) The gauges are the standard analog
"Isspro" Gauges that are available
from alot of the vendors on this
website and in "The Register"
magazine. I went with the higher
boost gauge (up to 50 as I get
40+ now with all the mods to the
pump and engine.

2. ) The gauge "pod" is made by "RW Products"
and is sold as the "Gauges Plus"
package. I originally bought my gauges
from "Scheid Diesel" in Terre Haute,
Indiana @ 1-800-669-1593. I got the
pod from "Precision Power" @ 1-800-
432-7269. The pod can be bought with
a fourth slot for another gauge if
needed. A similar set-up is made by
"U. S. Gear. " They can be bought
through any "Camping World" facility
and I believe "Scheid Diesel" also
has them. You can get them for all
the new model dash trucks too. (98up)

3. ) I like this set-up better than the
one "Banks" sells because the actual
gauge pod sits on top of the lower
mounting plate and it provides a
slightly "bulged" area near the A-
pillar that hides all the wires as
shown in the bottom photograph.
One other nice feature is that the
unit is mounted using "velcro tape"
therefore, nothing has to be screwed
into the dash to hold it. If you are
wondering whether the heat will "de-
tatch it" the answer is "NO. " I have
had this unit in my truck for four
years now with no problems. North
Carolina is HOT in the summertime too!

4. ) The gauge pod comes from the factory
"black" in color. I painted mine with
the factory "Mopar" matching spray
paint, in my case the color was
"Medium Quartz Interior", part #
4504706, Code HD5. " This paint comes
in a five (5) ounce can so you don't
have to waste it. However, there was
more than enough to paint all the parts.

I like this package very much. FOR ME, it
is better than the A-pillar set-up. Also,
contrary to what some have written about
the "Isspro" Gauges, I DO NOT have a
problem seeing my gauges at night, but
I have the brigter bulbs in them too.

Hope this has explained the set-up well
enough. If anybody has any questions feel
free to post on this site or e-mail me.

Pete, THANKS AGAIN for the photos. I have
got to get one of those cameras!
