I was going down the freeway with light traffic and switched over to the guage readings and this is what I was seeing at 70 mph and 88 degrees out side ,2000 rpm .Coolant at 206 ,trans at 181 ,oil at 219 , 40 psi oil pressure .Do these numbers look right ? Seems like the trans is pretty high although my old 96 Cummins temp reads in the pan and never moves unless under a load .I wasn't towing any thing on this trip .

Sounds pretty normal 3.0 diesel my coolant runs 203, 185 for transmission, 222 for engine oil and pressure 35 psi, I have 3.92 axle.

The '14 Durango is like that too but trans is par with oil and coolant. I don't tow with it but any heat I throw at it does not get it hot.
I think you're looking at a true temp inside the valve body or other case temp. I don't think you can compare that to a sump temp. Why not shoot the pan with a temp gun?

These readings from the gages are determine by computer algorithm, throttle position, outside temperature, engine temperature and load on the engine systems, only way to get true readings is to install directly to engine like oil pressure. I tow boat trailer all the time, these readings seem to stay pretty close to what are determine normal.

I believe the only "fake" gauge is the oil pressure. The readings I quoted on my Durango are information center digital readings, and I believe the oil pressure is actual on that one. I mistakenly put 0/20 instead of 5/20 once, and the cold pressure readings reflected that.

Your ED should have a transmission heater. It keeps the fluid at 185-190 no matter how light the load. I tried to block mine off but there is an internal bypass that keeps the temp above 185 regardless of coolant flow.
