Guage says no oil pressure

Started the truck today, then chime went off "check guages. " 0 oil pressure. Oh you know what, and I shut it down. I checked the oil filter and it along with the oil line to the turbo was warm. I restarted the truck, guage still says 0. I pulled the oil fill cap off and can see oil being pumped to the rockers. I decided to drive the truck and the guage would come up to 80 drop to 0, work for awhile and quit all together. I even installed a new oil filter to make sure.



Ideas?

THIS INFORMATION IS AVAILABLE ON THE ENGINE DATA PLATE, WHICH IS LOCATED ON THE LEFT SIDE OF THE ENGINE AFFIXED TO THE SIDE OF THE TIMING GEAR HOUSING.



My engine number is 5661017 and was likely built around 10-99. I can hear the dealer already: Sorry, this does not apply to your truck.

Update: Checked the oil pressure tonight with an analog guage and it's good. I had no idea the pressure varied so much. About 40 at idle, 60at 1500, and 75-80 at 2500. Guess there is some serious buffer built ijnto the factory cluster.

oil pressure sensor... .



Same thing happened to me. I saw the TSB, and my engine number is in range. TSB says replacing the sensor won't fix the problem, but it did for me. I did not do a re-flash. Sensor has ~8K miles since, and no problems.



I did this because a dealer diesel guru... . yeah, there really is one near me, said to do this. I did not go to the dealer... . paid out of my pocket cause I didn't want warranty grief, and the morons would've said we won't replace the sensor 'cause the TSB says it won't fix... . you get the picture. The sensor from Cummins is warrantied for one year. Also, the guru also warned me that the re-flash is the mother of all re-flashes and catches all of them..... so, you could be one of those who complained of loss of power after re-flash... . no way I'm letting them re-flash my truck.
