Guages installed today

Got the EGT and Boost guages installed today. Drilled and tapped for both. Probably shoud have waited for the piers bolt but had time to do it today. Everything went well.



Practiced the drilling and tapping on a piece of 2" square tube i had laying around to be sure of fit. Installed the boost in the airhorn after removing it. One funny thing, after i had removed the airhorn i was waiting for my friend to arrive to help me and i started rerouting some wires under the dash. One of the wires was for the alarm LED light which was not mounted. after pulling the wires out accidentally i had to put them back in the housing, there was a red and a blue wire, wasnt sure which went where. after guessing where they went i armed the system to see if the light would blink. I then tried to make the alarm go of since the warrings show up in the LED lighting sequence, anyway, by accident i hit the remote start on the truck and it started for a couple seconds before i was able to shut it down. I got finished what i was doing with the alarm and went back under the hood and noticed that the towel i had covering the intake was gone :--)







looked all around and couldnt find it. by this time my buddy had shown up and I had him hold a towel over the intake while i started the truck to see if it would try to suck it in the intake. It did. Got a coat hanger and luckily was able to get it out. glad I noticed it was missing.



Other than that install went flawlessly, with the exception of the pod being black. doesnt look too bad though.

Boost goes to 23 at WOT and EGT goes to 1200* at WOT and empty, does this EGT seem high? Cruises at 550*- 600*

WOT EGT seems a little high for a stock truck, but is still safe. This is pre turbo temps, right?

yes, pre turbo temps, mounted in rear manifold directly above turbo.

yeah i couldn't see it at all in the intake... wondering around scratching my head , thinkin' it's gotta be in there.

Task, the gauges look great! I wish I could have done that for my '02.

BTW, what part of Jersey are you in? I am in Southampton, which is near Medford and Cherry Hill. I have not seen too many TDR members in NJ.

Ok I am ready to order some gauges for my 03'... . A few questions,

1. ) what is the Piers bolt and is it neccesary?

2. ) If I order the Di-Pricol gauges (white) from genos, how well do they match the Dodge oem gauges?

3. ) I only want 3 gauges on a pillar mount, I was thinking EGT,Boost and F. P. is that the normal consensus for a manual transmission?

4. ) what hardware/ parts will I need which aren't supplied with the gauges from Geno's?

I bought the Dipricols that were built specifically for 03 Dodges but sent them back. During the day they match fairly well but the font isn't as "bold" as the stock gages, but they still matched better than anything else out there. Also the back lighting is much more green in color than the trucks gages.

The only reason I sent them back is that I couldn't see them if they were mounted in the cubby.

Marty, the piers bolt is not necessary but i would recommend it, no fuss no muss. i had to drill and tap my airhorn. not a big problem but would have been much easier with the bolt, and no towel incident.



The dipricol guages match nicely during the day but at night the egt guage is very green and the boost not so much. also they have different needles on them. I may go with another guage after a while since most of my driving is at night and the two different colors is kinda freaky.



didnt get mine from genos so cant answer that one all I needed was some extra wire for the lights.

Piers bolt just makes it easier

I have the dipricol gages on the steering column and like them.

Went with boost and pyro,at the time I heard fuel pres was not an Issue.

I installed the gauges today, I went with the Dipricols, EGT, Boost,and temp gauge which will monitor the rear diff. someday. I orderd the piers bolt for the boost. Then when the gauges and triple pillar mount came from Geno's they also included a piers bolt. (so have an extra)

The install went fine, but I dont like the way the pillar looks from the outside front windshield. You can see a gap and wires the back of gauges etc... I may have to pull it off and use the factory pillar, cut off the handle and put the new pillar over the old one. I thought many had done the install without the factory pillar with success... . wonder what the trick is?

BTW: I think the Dipricols look super and the color matches great in the day and at night, don't know what some of the other posters are talking about when they say they don't match. ???

Hey Zachv and Task125, I live in Ventnor, NJ. Just outside of Atlantic City. I drive to Moorsetown everyday for work. 130 miles round trip a day. I ordered a 03 and have had it about three months, 9000 miles. I love this truck ! I looked before and never found anyone from Jersey on TDR. Glad to see it. Hopefully will be installing gauges soon.

Before putting the pillar in place on mine, I ran a strip of black electrical tape up the edge of the windshield, effectively extending the factory 'blackout' at the edge of the windshield. It's enough to cover the gap at the pillar, and is indistinguishable from the factory blackout to the casual observer.
