This was in the weird but true section of todays NY Post

A Texas man is catching grief from his homeowner's association for parking his new Ford F-150 pickup truck in his driveway - even though the group permits luxury trucks.

"It's very frustrating and confusing," said Jim Greenwood, the Frisco resident, who received three notices threatening fines.

Possibly if that poor judge of pick-ups did receive flack for buying a Ford or parking any pick-up on his driveway I'd excuse him, however, if he started to dismantle it on the driveway and or front lawn perhaps there would be a case to consider.

If everyone would maintain their property and keep it looking good (I could go on and on but I think you get my point) then there would not any reason for home owner associations. Besides, no one makes you buy into one. I made the choice not to buy into one several years ago, and now I sometimes think I should have.

I live close to several sub divisions that are run like that. I could never live like that. But my property has been here since 1863 and it is less cluttered than some other places are... It is just a matter of pride in your property.

Some people choose to clutter thier property because they think it lowers the property value. A ford in the driveway may do just that!!!!

Actually, I doubt that the homeowners association has any say on WHAT is on your driveway. They may have a policy to not have anything parked on the street or driveway (out of a garage) during certain hours.

Sorry fox, the HOA I was in did not allow RV's or unregistered vehicles to be parked in front of the house. Not in the driveway, side-yard, nothing. It had to be behind the fence. You couldn't even have a "project" vehicle in your garage and have the garage door open.

I was glad to leave there after one incident. We had had a major storm come through the area. Not much rain or snow at all, but we did have 90MPH winds. I had bark mulch around the base of some trees and landscaping. The very next day after the storm I got a letter from the HOA threatening fines if I did not cover the bare dirt in my front yard. Mind you, I had just gotten home from work and it was the very next day. Also, we had lost around ten thousand square feet of our roof at work, several A/C units blown off, and the roof was leaking right into one of my IDF rooms so I was a little busy that day. Needless to say, I was a little upset.

This was my first, and only so far, home I have ever purchased and I learned my lesson.

I cant park an rv or boat on my property and its a private home!. Its a local town law. ... . But anything horse related is ok

kenny61, to a horse owner or horse lover that would make good sense, the horsey kind all stick together. Can you park a boat or rv if it's in a garage, shed etc?

You can park one boat or rv in garage. You cant have one of each. or have one screened from view. Which allows the horse people with all their acreage to have it all and us with the smaller lots not too. I am putting up a garage for my 35' trailer but they would only allow me a 30' deep garage so now i need a new trailer or keep paying to store it... . anybody wanna trade a 29' for a 35'

A friend

A very good friend of mine moved to a Denver suburb, the homeowners association told him he couldn't have a clothesline! He told them to shove it, sold his place and moved out.

I'd be getting a good look at the real laws of this country. If YOU own the property YOUR house and YOUR RV/Boat/Car/horses poop is on, I find it really hard to believe that they can REALLY have that kind of control over YOUR property.

NY sucks when it comes to this crap. It's a shame the area is so beautiful but the taxes and BS ruins it. I ve had a ongoing fight with my neighbor for the last 3 years when i cut down my trees on myproperty. she says she has no privacy and I should put up a fence I told her she can pay for one if she wants it. now she yells at my kids and wife everytime we go outside. I finally got so fed up I called the cops and the district attorney got me a temp order of protection. The local judge wants to get rid of it because he doesnt think its needed.

This is exactly why I wont buy a place with a homeowners association.

I hate it when I cant have the house painted the way I would like.

I dislike 'cookiecutter" housing. I prefer individuality myself.

Kids hit college and I'm outa here too

Kenny, where'd you go? Further upstate, or out completley? I was considering moving up that way- when my job lets me- but I keep hearing stories like yours. Westchester seems pretty bad, I was looking there and in Orange. The taxes are nuts! Here in the city, things arent too bad- if you have space to put things... ...

I'm lookin to move out of state. I'm tired of throwing my Republican vote away I dont even know why I bother! The taxes are horible and everything is so expensive only in Westchester can you make 6 figures a year and still be broke. Now don't get me wrong Westchester is beautiful the crime rates are low and the schools and services are good too. But 3. 99 a gallon for heating oil 10k (mine are cheap for the area)a year in real estate tax (thats for well water and septic) Some of the highest electric rates in the nation whats a boy to do? Upstate I love it up there but it's still the NY mentality tax and spend and then ask why are there no jobs? If I cant talk the wife into leaving It's where I'll probaly wind up but its not my first choice
