This is exactly why I wont buy a place with a homeowners association.

I hate it when I cant have the house painted the way I would like.

I dislike 'cookiecutter" housing. I prefer individuality myself.

DITTO! For the price people pay for a subdivision house, they could buy some land and build the same house in a rural area, WITHOUT the invasive neighbors, HOA, noise and pollution.

I love my country living. I can have whatever parked wherever I want it (got several projects in the works, no junk), cut my grass when I feel like it (rarely) and have parties, livestock, diesel trucks/equipment, bonfires, shoot guns or fireworks, ride 4-wheelers or just sit and enjoy the beauty of nature... All with nobody complaining!

Yeah i got 1/2 acre of PRIVATE property no sub division no hoa no nothing other than stupid town laws. the town I work in your grass can't be over 3 or 4 inches... welcome to america

Country living is good: on this list should be peeing of the deck and just about any other activity that you please. :D

As long as there isn't junk on front porches like old washing machines and fridges, that is a dream for me! My Aunt moved down to SC from NYC back in the 70's to have a less restrictive life to run a business. They're having an immigration problem, but other than that it's OK down there. Too hot for me though.

I was on vacation at lake Placid a couple weeks ago, and I actually saw a border patrol truck and officer around the hotel I was at. The truck was a new yukon, white with a green stripe at the quarter window. It had large tires and a fabbed pre runner front bumper. First time I ever saw border patrol enforcement of any kind.

I drove thru Ossining NY last week, had to be 50 of em standing by the side of the road. I didnt notice but my brother was following me and said they were all waving at me. Guess they thought I was a contractor

Try going up Rt 11 from Watertown to Canton or Potsdam. See them all the time, usually a roadblock set up in the afternoon. I just get waved thru with the big service truck.

Last week I was up in Massena. On the way back 37 splits and you can take 12 to Alex Bay, they had 3 Suv's there and a car pulled over. 4-5 people sitting on the ground, trunk open and all emptied out on the ground. Must have been a drug bust.

They have been around the Syracuse area more in the last month or so.

just move to Wisconsin... we can do pretty much anything we want here. In fact, in Northern WI, if you don't have AT LEAST 10 vehicles in your yard that DON'T run, then you don't fit in! :)

From what I gathered in the story, no one held a gun to the guy's head and forced him to join the homeowner's association. Therefore, he entered into a contract of his own volition, that basically said he agreed to the terms of the neighborhood. So, he has no right to complain whatsoever. There are plenty of other houses around ANY area of the country; he didnt have to buy there. All one has to do is read the fine print (Do I hear sub-prime mortgage woes?). Now, if there was nothing in the fine print prohibiting pickups, then he has a valid case.

Pete, one could buy a horse trailer with a living quarter (and from what I have seen, they are much better quality than the average RV), and keep it on the place. No need to punish the horses.

Kenny, if you're looking to stay in NY, my dad is the town judge in Onoville, near Jamestown. Taxes and real estate are cheaper in Warren PA, just south across the line. I was raised in Warren, and I'll be moving back there in a couple weeks. It's a beautiful area with a pretty much non-existent crime rate, borders a State Park in NY, and a National Forest in PA, lots to do if you like the outdoors, Buffalo, Cleveland, and Pittsburgh are all within 2 1/2 hours for the big city needs.

What kind of work do you do?
