I've been thinking of selling my 05 but I'm not sure if I will after all. With fuel prices and it not being a very nice riding family vehicle I decided to go back to the dealer where I bought it and see what it's trade-in value is. The salesman said if I would have brought it in a month ago it would of been worth upper $20s. But right now Dodge has a deal going that if you buy a brand new diesel you get a fuel card that you will never have to pay over $2. 99 for fuel. This is making trucks sell like crazy so he said mine is only worth $18,000. :{ It only has about 65,000 miles on it and has been well maintained and used as a family vehicle all its life. Was gonna trade it in on a Dodge caravan but I guess I'll just keep it unless somebody on here wants it for maybe more like what its worth.

I read the Dodge fuel deal and it has a yearly mileage on it so it is not that great of a deal.

not that great of a deal? It has a 12000 mile limit, per year for three years. That is a great deal, I wish I paid 2. 99 for the first 12000 miles I drive every year. It's a way better deal than $4. 70+ that I pay now.

The Beast lives(for awhile anyway).

I read an article explaining the reasons for such high diesel prices and it does come down to supply and demand with a degree of Big Oil markup. China and India are indeed willing to pay top dollar for diesel and the producers are selling to the top dog. I went to Auto Trader and obtained their selling kit,but I just can't part with the Beast yet. I hate seeing it sit in the driveway while I'm condemned to drive our '98 Accord.

I also heard a radio advertisement last night for the 2. 99 program. Originally I think it was to include diesels, what I heard on the radio said except diesels and SRT vehicles:mad:

I was at my dealer today looking at an '05 Durango, still has 7/70, gets 20 mpg highway and gas is 60 cents a gallon cheaper. I am thinking I better do it soon too, lots of used diesels on the lot.

I just checked dodge.com and it does include diesels.

The catch is that if you buy a gas-powered vehicle, you can't use the card to buy diesel or vice-versa. Actually you can, but for the wrong fuel, you will be charged full pump price plus a $2. 00 fee.

For a Ram 1500, 2500, & 3500 gas or diesel, they figure 12,000 miles/year @ 15 mpg. That's 2,400 gallons of fuel total for the three years.

12000 is an average for most people in a year. i normaly do 15k. and if you tow with you truck, and use it as a work truck 12k is like, 4 months. so for a guy that works his truck (not that i ever will, i just like big, loud, strong trucks) that 2. 99 a gallon deal with limits isnt a deal.

This really isn't the sweet deal they claim it is. Assuming that you will never exceed the 12000 miles figured and you achieve 15 mpg this equates to 800 gallons of fuel annually. The cost savings is essentially the difference between the 2. 99 subsidized fuel cost and the current consumer fuel cost which we can assume around 5. 00/gallon. this equates to a $1600 difference annually. This savings difference diminishes significantly when you consider that most of us really don't drive 12,000 miles a year. I put about 30,000 miles a year on my truck so while I would realize the $1600 savings the proportion of savings to overall fuel cost becomes negligible as the mileage is incresed. You guys called it... ... ... ... Gimmick. The fact that the salesmen are contemplating this fuel incentive as a means of further depreciating the value of a properly operating used diesel vehicle for trade in is absurd.

I don't know what other people are getting, but the last time I went to the dealer to trade I was offered $10,000 less than KBB and they said take it or leave it. They don't want our trucks because they can't sell our trucks.

Well, I'm ok with that. They can't have my truck even if they do want it. It's paid for and I'll be keeping it, thank you very much!

Tade it in and pay at least $2400 a year in payments to get $1600 in free gas/diesel doesn't sound like a good deal to me. Assuming fuel will be $2. 00 a gallon difference. Gezz spend $800 more per year and then you still owe on the vehicle when the gas card is no good. I'll keep my truck, it's paid for.

It is only good on 08's 800 gallons per year, total of 2400. If you don't drive much you could sell you remaining gallons for $4 and make a little back. Called yesterday and it didn't work for me but if I were looking for a new truck would be a great deal.
