TST #12 or #11 Upgrade ??

Well, after 212,000 miles my stock torque converter is starting to slip while pulling or racing D/A's and SD's. (A good reason to upgrade!)

I'm going to call DTT Monday but in the mean time I thought I would ask what converter, 89%, 91% or 93%, you "guys" think? Pro’s and Con’s, etc... ...

The truck is a 95 auto, trans-go shift kit, 4x4 that has about 285-305 rwhp. and is used mostly for commuting but pulls trailers about 10,000 miles a year; Trailer weight varies from 1,500lbs to 20,000 lbs.

On a side note: I occasionally go to the track with it.

Thanks,

Breck Livingston

P. S. Anyone in mid-Michigan with a DTT torque converter?

Just tell Bill what setup you have and what you do with the truck and he will give you the best recommendation. Given you have 300 or so rwhp I vote for a 91%.

Thanks Sly,

That is kind of what I was leaning towards any way. I thought I had read a post about someone liking the 89% better than their father's 91% and just wanted some more feed-back.

Just trying to get my post count up to 500 mark. ;)

There was a tread a week or two ago in products forum, that had something to do with what makes a 89% or 91%, etc. In there is a discussion about turbo lag and tight torque converters. I am guessing this has to do with peoples preferences of 89% versus 91%.

My guess is a guy with 350+ hp could drive an 89% no problem and wished they had a 91% or 93%, and a guy with stock to 250 or so would not like the lag of a 93%.

At the 300hp mark I am guessing a 91% would be close. And if you need to you can always add another 25-50 hp. Work on reducing turbo lag, and pre-boost power.

There are some guys out your way with a DTT convertor in their trucks. I forget their TDR handles at the moment, but hopefully they will see this thread.

I have yet to drive a truck with an 89%, but I really wish I could drive my truck with both a 91% and an 89%. Piers Modified HX35 should cure the little extra lag I "think" I have with the 91%.

Seeing you are in Michigan, you might consider becoming a member of the Great Lakes TDR www.gltdr.org It would probably be a little easier over there to locate someone close with a DTT transmission.
