I just baught a new overhead gun rack from Bass Pro Shops, I am a little nervous about installing it yet though, I was wondering if we have single, or double skin roofs in our trucks, I don't want to drill through the top lol. If anyone has a rack in there truck, let me know if it is ok to drill through the first skin, and how much room there is between the first and second skin, if it is double layered in the center of the cab.

Thanks,

Willie

its easier to just drill through and put nuts on the outside, really strong that way. NOT! Its a double wall but not sure if its all over. Pull the console and you can see whats up there.

SLewis, Don't start drilling yet. If you plan to mount it in the rear of the cab roof, it's single wall. I found out the hard way on my '95. Even though I put rubber washers and silicone on the bolts, it still allowed a small bit of water to seep in. I think the front portion of the cab is double wall, but that is not a very convenient location. My thought on my '01 is to get one of the rack/cases that hang behind the front seats.

you might want to look for one of the gun racks that hangs off the rubber moulding instead of drilling into the sheet metal. I haven't installed one but I've looked at 'em and that's the route I plan to go. They also have hardware for those who have a rear sliding window. The whole set-up looks pretty slick.

Its a go if you want to put the rack above the driver/passenger. It's double walled. I put the sky rack in my 2002 just after I bought it. It is easy to pull the rubber off the door seal a bit and then you can look under the headliner. You will be able to see a spot that is quite a bit lower than the rest. If your 6'1" or more you might not like it. My Dad rides with me everyonce in a while and seems to hit the top of his hat on it often. Got mad when I told him to get in back if he didn't like it. Anyway, you can do it and keeps the rifle handy for them damn Coyotes. Good Luck Russ

Use super glue!!

Why not do it right ??????

Spend the 1/2 hour and pull the head liner and see for yourself where and how to mount it.
