Engine/Transmission (1998.5 - 2002) gunk on IAT sensor?

I had a little engine sludge on my IAT is thisa normal thing for one that has never been changed?

I cant say if it is normal, but I found the same thing when I cleaned mine at about 150k miles

Mine had it also, looked allot like soot to me.

Yep, they get crap on them, seems more so if you have and use an exhaust brake. Not a bad idea to take it out periodically and clean with brake cleaner.

I understand you can clean it off with alcohol (rubbing).

Thanks to my new adrenaline/pulse I found out my IAT sensor is bad. Reads -40F all the time. Guess I'll have to replace it, maybe it will help the mileage a tad bit. Kind of surprised there's no check engine light on because of it.
